Fred Tiess has been with JWU for 10 years. He was the Executive Chef at the Founders Inn and ConferenceCenter in Virginia Beach, VA and a sous chef at the five diamond rated Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia, VA.  He also worked in Palm Beach, Fla., Hilton Head, SC and New York, NY. Tiess holds four national culinary titles and has earned three best in show finishes at culinary competitions along with 12 medals.  

Tiess is a graduate of JWU, the Culinary Institute of America, the State University of New York and the Greenbrier Apprenticeship Program.  He has served former President George H. W. Bush, former Vice President Dan Quayle, Senator Edward Kennedy as well as actors Chuck Norris, Robin Williams, Bill Murray and television evangelist Pat Robertson. Tiess can be seen on ABC Family on “Living the Life” cooking segments called the “Spice of Life”.
