Cwynar has been at Johnson &
since 1992, where she teaches classes in American and Continental cuisine,
Nutrition & Sensory Analysis, Sanitation Management, and Vegetarian
Cuisine. An avid sailor, she has trained JWU students in cooking at sea, and she
has helped to lead Employee Enrichment Programs and facilitated seminars at the
Center for Teaching Excellence & Distance Learning.
In recognition of her dedication and service, Cwynar received the College’s
Nutrition Service Award in 1999, 2000 and 2004, as well as the Outstanding
Service Award in 1997, 2000, 2001, and 2007. She received the Robert M. Nograd Teacher
of the Year Award in 2005, the 2008 and 2010 Most Valuable Player Award, and the 2009 Les Amis d’Escoffier Society Award.
Prior to coming to JWU Cwynar worked at the Boston School
for the Deaf, where she taught culinary and life skills, as well as provided
catering services for all school functions. She has also owned and operated
several businesses, including The Mills Restaurant in Marstons Mills, Mass., and was chef/hostess/caterer at The Scituate
Harbor Yacht Club in Scituate, Mass.
Cwynar serves as part of Team Nutrition for the Kids First program, providing
skills and management training for Rhode
Island school food service personnel. She also acts
as a demonstrator in community centers, teaching families how to choose and
prepare healthy foods. She is a member of the Association for Career and
Technical Education, the Boston
Vegetarian Society, the International Association of Culinary Professionals,
the North American Vegetarian Society, and Women Chefs and Restaurateurs.
