Chef Dean Lavornia came to Johnson & Wales University in 1997, where he teaches classes in plated desserts, pastries, and cake decorating; he specializes in light and healthy desserts and wedding cakes. He received the JWU Pastry Service Award in 2004.Lavornia owns and operates Delicious Wishes, specializing in fine pastries, catering, and wedding cakes. He also works as Executive Pastry chef at the Dunes Club in Narragansett, R.I. Lavornia was voted the Outstanding First-Year Teacher in 1998 and in 1999 won a gold medal at the New York Food Show. He has been a featured chef on the PBS series "Master Class at Johnson & Wales," is a Certified Executive Pastry Chef, a member of the American Culinary Federation, and a member of the U.S. Pastry Alliance.
