CHARLOTTE, NC - April 11, 2013 – Ten students have been announced as finalists for their Southern-inspired ice cream recipes in the Second Annual Front Porch New Flavor Competition, sponsored by Front Porch Carolina Churned Ice Cream and Johnson & Wales University’s Charlotte Campus. “This year’s competition really understood the Southernism of the Front Porch brand,” said Babi Alarcon, president at Mooresville Ice Cream Company and Front Porch. “The students were spot-on with understanding the brand and the flavors of the south.” The 10 selected finalists are:
Of the 53 submitted recipes, these ten finalists were selected and will create their ice cream recipes for a judging event on April 26th at the university. Judges and media guests will be able to mingle and sample the finalists’ creations. Light hors d'oeuvres will also be served. Each of the 10 finalists will receive a $100 gift card. One will win a Grand Prize of $1,000; a runner-up will receive $500. Guests of the event will vote for a People’s Choice award, with a prize of $100. JWU alum Carolyn Malone’s 2012 winning recipe for Memaw’s Pineapple Upside Down Cake helped inspire Front Porch’s newest flavor, Happily Pineapply Upside Down Cake.
