Men's basketball makes history
December 18, 2006 (Denver, CO) - JWU men's basketball made
history last night when they defeated the Mavericks of Mesa State
89–87 in the Thunderdome of Manual High School.
As time expired, Danny Lopez (South Phoenix, AZ) hit a three point
shot from the corner. This put the Wildcats up by two and secured
the team's second victory of the season. Previously, no JWU men’s
basketball team had ever defeated an RMAC team that was in first place.
Furthermore, Coach Culver had yet to defeat any RMAC opponent since he
took over at JWU in 2005.
JWU had four scorers score more than ten points during the game. Leading scorer, Jason Davis (Schreveport, LA) tallied 24 in 30 minutes of play, four above his season average. Also contributing were Tim Wright (St. Louis, MO) with 18 points, Danny Lopez with 16 points and Adolf Mondaca (Bakersfield, CA) with ten points.
The Wildcats hope to continue their win streak as they take on the Rangers of Regis University tonight in the Thunderdome of Manual High School.
Wildcats get first win of the season, 75-70
December 2, 2006 (Denver, CO) - 125 screaming cat pack fans and supporters turned out Saturday evening as the Wildcats down the Hard Rockers of South Dakota School of Mining & Technology, 75-70.
The Wildcats’ winless woes have been silenced and the critics are finally seeing what Coach Culver can do. The Wildcats were undersized and out scored for most of the second half, but with disciplined play they were able to stay out of foul trouble when it counted. The same cannot be said for the Hard Rockers as two last minute double-bonus free throws made by JWU’s Jason Davis put the Wildcats up by three with seconds remaining ensuring the win.
The Hard Rockers finish their road trip to Denver with two losses and the Wildcats move on with a record of 1-8. JWU’s next game will be on the road against the RMAC’s Western State College and Fort Lewis this weekend.

Western defensively taking advantage of gaps in the lane. Leading
the way for the Wildcats were Eric
Davis (Salt Lake City, UT) who totaled 24 points and nine rebounds,
and Jason Davis (Shreveport, LA) adding 22 points and six rebounds.
