Freshmen “quad-squad” brings sense of youth, energy to JWU basketball

Johnson & Wales young core of freshman: Brooke Durant, Andrea Austin, Sarah FitzPatrick, and Jacinda Baumann have shown flashes of the future. “The Wildcat’s 2007-08, season was an opportunity for our young players to learn, gain experience and build for the future,” says second year head coach, Clifton Durant. “We don’t have a wealth of experience. However, one way to get experience is to get out there and play". This season was the opportunity for our freshman to take a major step forward. Facing one of the toughest NAIA schedules in the nation and boasting one of the NAIA’s youngest lineups, I feel our young ladies did well in their development. This team has already shown the extra level of hard-work and commitment it takes to be successful.

Quad Squad

"This was a very talented, unselfish, and hard-working group of girls. We had balanced scoring from our core group. Durant, Austin and FiztPatrick all averaged 10 points per game”, said Coach Durant. Nationally Brooke ranked 17th in assists and 10th in steals among all NAIA Div. II players. Jacinda Baumann chipped in another 7 points per game and was ranked in the “top 50” among all NAIA Div. II players in total rebounds (ranked 42nd). Redshirts LyVette Groce and Tyshel McPherson, two more recruits from the class 2007, look to play significant minutes next season. We will go into next season with one year of valuable court experience under our belt. Our goal is to build upon and improve on what we did last year,” Durant said.
