We realize our study abroad programs operate in a larger cultural, political, and economic world context. Safety for our students and faculty is always a priority. Knowledge and prevention are the best tools to maintain personal safety.

Various resources, including the U.S. Department of State travel advisory websites, provide important resources for faculty, staff, and students planning international travel. Information on current conditions in countries and world regions are also available. International Center staff regularly monitor these sites and consult with partner institutions, teaching staff abroad and University officials, to make informed and prudent program decisions.

The International Center, Study Abroad, in collaboration with the campus Department of Safety and Security and the University administration, have developed a crisis management plan to coordinate crisis response efforts between the students, faculty advisors, parents, JWU administration, as well as police, health care providers, and insurance providers. In addition, individuals need to make safe travel decisions regarding what they choose to pack, how they choose to dress, what activities they choose to participate in, and how they conduct themselves in a foreign country with different cultural norms and laws. Traveling is a wonderful experience and we are committed to helping people plan for a safe travel experience.
