City Street Begins Conversion to Pedestrian Mall on December 7 NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – Dec. 3, 2007 – As part of Johnson & Wales University’s master plan, the City of North Miami has approved the development of a pedestrian mall between two Johnson & Wales University residence halls located at NE 125th Street between NE 17th Avenue and Biscayne Boulevard.
The university is hosting an informational meeting that is open to the public at noon on Saturday, Dec. 8 in the university’s Library, 12800 NE 17th Ave., North Miami. "The university’s goal is to continue to beautify the area to create a pleasant campus that both our students and neighbors can enjoy," said Donald McGregor, J.D., president of the North Miami Campus since it opened in 1992. "It is hard to imagine how much North Miami has changed in the 15 years since the university has opened, and we are happy to be part of this living history." Throughout the past five years, the university has undertaken a number of projects as part of its master plan to create a unified, modern college campus. Major projects have included renovations to existing campus facilities, and the opening of new facilities such as Tropical Pointe residence hall, The Mix dining center, Arch Creek parking lot and the Robert M. Nograd Center for Bachelor’s Degree Studies. This development occurs as a result of Resolution R-2006-139, a measure approved October 24, 2006 by the North Miami City Council as part of JWU’s strategic master plan.
