Providence Campus Holds 11th Annual Cassola Conference: PROVIDENCE, R.I. — March 4, 2008 — Educators throughout New England are invited to attend the 11th Annual Johnson & Wales University Cassola Conference on teaching communication in the classroom and community. The conference, sponsored by the English Department in the John Hazen White School of Arts & Sciences, will be held on Friday, April 4, 2008 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Harborside Academic Center on the university's Harborside Campus. The keynote speaker begins at 8:30 a.m. Helen Glover will be the keynote speaker, sharing what she discovered about the role of communication in her experiences as a Navy instructor, a contestant on the reality television show "Survivor," and currently as a talk show host on WHJJ radio. This year's conference, "Telling the Whole Story: Communication in the Classroom and Community," addresses a broad range of oral communications issues. Participants will examine their own efforts to tell the whole story in today's classrooms and communities, and how they face challenges ranging from course curricula to information literacy to their attempts to understand competing narratives about global issues such as climate change, national security and international conflict. The conference, named after the late JWU professor Ilene Cassola, is open to the public. Registration deadline is March 30. Any registrations received after March 30 will incur a $10 late fee. Fees are $50 for full-time faculty/employees, $40 for part-time faculty/employees and $30 for students and retirees.
