Hopper Named Dean of Libraries

PROVIDENCE, R. I. – July 7, 2008 – Rosita Hopper of Rockville, R.I., has been named dean of libraries at Johnson & Wales University She was promoted from the position of director. Hopper's new responsibilities will combine leadership of the Providence Campus' two library locations.

Hopper has been with the university for 17 years, starting as catalog librarian, then head of Library Technical Services. She was promoted to director of the Providence Campus libraries in 2004, where she was responsible for the administration of library services at the Downcity and Harborside campuses. She has been instrumental in implementing many significant changes that have occurred in library services over the past decade, in particular the automation of circulation services at the Harborside Campus facility.  She has chaired several standing committees for the Higher Education Library Network, for which she was also appointed facilitator for a major organizational summit. In 2006, she served on a NEASC site evaluation team, and also co-wrote and published an article in the Journal of Academic Librarianship.

She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Illinois and a Master of Library Science from

Simmons Graduate School of Library and Information Science, where she is currently a doctoral candidate.  She is a member of the American Library Association; Association of College & Research Libraries; New England Library Association and the Rhode Island Library Association. Hopper has addressed the New England Chapter of the Association of College & Research Libraries, the Rhode Island Library Association.

Hopper is also an amateur violinist dedicated to promoting music education for children. Together with her husband, retired R.A.F. flight lieutenant Roy Hopper; she is raising a 14-year old daughter, Roseanna, and 9-year old son, Edward, both accomplished violinists and students in the Chariho School District.
