Try Your Hand at Food Writing
Class offered at Providence Campus

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — November 1, 2007 — A course on food writing will be offered by Johnson & Wales University in the winter term for individuals interested in careers as food writers, cookbook authors and restaurant reviewers.

Students in this 11-week course will write personal essays about food, biographies of chefs, query letters to editors, restaurant reviews and cookbook proposals. Newspaper food sections will be analyzed, and recipe writing will be explored.

In addition, noted food writers and editors, restaurant critics and cookbook authors will be invited to speak to the class. This writing-intensive class was created for students interested in writing about food in cookbooks, food magazines, newspaper food sections and the Internet.

The course, which carries 4.5 quarter hours of credit, will be taught onWednesday evenings from 6 to 9:30 p.m. The cost for the 11-week course is $630.
