JWU Lady Wildcats -
2007-08 Season Preview

The JWU women’s basketball team begins its third season of competition without the two cornerstones of the program.  The Cats lost graduating twins Maria Berrezueta and Veronica Luis.  “The Twins” were JWU’s leading scorers, assist leaders and steal leaders in both of their years in uniform.  Berrezueta is now playing professional basketball.

The Lady Cats will turn to Jr. Robyn Swaby (Nassau, Bahamas), Jr. Precious Lippett (Plant City, FL) and Jr. LaQueda Smith (Fort Lauderdale, FL) to lead the charge on both ends of the floor.  Swaby and Smith are the leading returning scorer and rebounder.  Lippett, who sat out last season, will be a big factor at the point guard position.  She brings needed quickness and experience.

“We have added overall speed, quickness, aggressiveness to our line up which should enable us to run on offense and to put greater pressure on the defensive end,” said third-year Coach Randy Simmons.

Key freshmen additions are Sellina Thomas (Jacksonville, FL), Cynthia Vazquez (Lancaster, PA) and Keyonna Hill (Clearwater, FL).
