The Student Counseling Center provides JWU students free, on-site confidential therapy with a licensed clinician. Our goal is to create a safe environment where students are free to explore their concerns as they adjust to the challenges of college life. Common counseling concerns may include but are not limited to issues of anxiety, depression, grief, relationships, substance use, homesickness, sexuality, family problems or any current source of distress which may negatively influence the student experience. Additional clinical services, such as support groups, psychiatric evaluations, medication oversight, couples and family therapy are also available either on campus or by referral off-site.For appointment, referral or more information contact Claudia Ewald LCSW, director of the Counseling Center, at 305-892-7013, or visit the Counseling Department at ASC 207.
An after-hours on-call service for psychological emergencies is also available directly by calling 1-888-222-4805, or it may be accessed via Campus Safety and Security at 305-892-7011.
Peer EducatorsThe Counseling Center employs three Peer Educators – students driven by personal experience and the desire to help their fellow students. Peer Educators are available to serve as resources, listeners, advocates, sounding boards, motivators, supporters, coaches, guides and friends. Students are encouraged to stop in any time to chat, pick up information, or just hang out.
