a message from donald g. mcgregor, j.d., president emeritus, north miami campus
In April I celebrated my 40th year of service to Johnson & Wales University. When I began as an accounting instructor at our Providence Campus in 1968, I had no idea that what was my first job after college, would become my lifelong career.

There has been abundant personal gratification over the years being an educator. As time has passed, I always knew there would come a day to leave JWU, to move on and re-direct my endeavors. At the 2008 commencement ceremony on May 19, I announced my retirement from JWU.

I will remain at the university until April 2009 as president emeritus, working with our Office of Development on fundraising for student scholarships.

I want to thank the faculty for the superb job they do working with our students, and our administrative team for the support you give us all. Most importantly, to the students, alumni and your families, thank you for entrusting me and the university in preparing you for your careers.

As I approach my final retirement, I know the university is left in the good hands of Loreen Chant ’89, who has been campus vice president since 2000. I am confident that she will lead our campus to greater heights during her tenure as president.

a message from loreen m. chant ’89, president, north miami campus
As a workstudy student at the Providence Campus in 1985, a graduate in 1989 and a pioneer staff member at the North Miami Campus in 1992, I feel tremendous pride in accepting the presidency at the North Miami Campus. To participate in the university’s evolution and growth throughout my 23-year affiliation has been an adventure and I am so proud to take on this new position at such a dynamic university.

In accepting the presidency I am confident the North Miami Campus is truly poised to go from ‘good to great’ and am both energized by, and committed to that outcome. The direction articulated in FOCUS 2011 for strengthening the university provides a compelling and clear vision that will guide all of our efforts. Our highest priority remains providing the best possible academic and student life experiences for our students.

Mac’s vision for the North Miami Campus and the student-centered culture he modeled throughout his presidency is his legacy. He leaves the presidency having laid a tremendous foundation for the campus and I have always been inspired by his unyielding passion for the university and its students.

Working together we will accomplish the ambitious goals of FOCUS 2011 and the vision Mac brought with him to North Miami in 1992. I look forward to the opportunities and challenges ahead of us knowing the strength of this campus lies in the talent and dedication of our faculty and staff whom I hold in the highest regard and with our approximately 6,000 alumni and students.
