JWU Women’s Basketball Eliminated From GNAC Tournament With 82-57 Setback Against Emmanuel February 29, 2008
Boston, Mass. – Junior Johanna Santosuosso (Salem, N.H.) scored a team-high 16 points and added six assists and three rebounds in the Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball teams 82-57 setback against Emmanuel in the semifinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship at the Yawkey Center on Friday evening.
Johnson & Wales sophomore Alexia Ramirez (San Marcos, Calif.) recorded a double-double, scoring 10 points and collecting 11 rebounds. Junior Alyse Ragaglia (West Newbury, Mass.) was also in double figures with 11 points and five rebounds in the loss for the Wildcats.
Emmanuel senior Jacquelyn Pannell (Bloomfield, Conn.) had a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Senior Jade Paez (Bronx, N.Y.) was also in double figures with 12 points, three rebounds and two assists in the win for the Saints.
Emmanuel held JWU to just 18.5% shooting from the field, including 14.3% from the three point line, and forced 20 turnovers.
The two teams battled back and forth throughout the early stages of the game with JWU trailing just 13-11 after a jumper by Santosuosso with 13:19 left in the first half. Emmanuel then went on a 17-7 run, capped by a layup by sophomore Abigail Brenkach (Germantown, N.Y.) to take a 30-18 lead with just over seven minutes left on the clock. JWU again cut the lead to just nine points after a pair of free throws by Ragaglia made the score 32-23 with 5:30 left in the half. The Saints then closed out the half with a 14-4 run to take the 46-27 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Saints controlled the action early in the second half, opening with a 14-0 run to extend their lead to 60-27 with 14:30 remaining in the contest. Emmanuel then took the 82-57 victory.
With the loss Johnson & Wales is now 13-13 overall while Emmanuel improves to 21-6 on the season. Emmanuel will host the GNAC Championship game on Saturday, March 1st at the Yawkey center.
JWU Women’s Basketball Earns Three All-GNAC Selections

Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball team put three players on the Great Northeast Athletic All-Conference team, announced by the league office this afternoon. Sophomore Alexia Ramirez (San Marcos, Calif.) was named to the first team, junior Johanna Santosuosso (Salem, N.H.) earned second team accolades and junior Alyse Ragaglia (West Newbury, Mass.) was a third-team performer.
Ramirez was a three-time GNAC Player of the Week and finished sixth in the league in scoring with 15.4 points per game. She was also ranked third in the conference in rebounding with 11.6 per game. For the year she was second in the GNAC in blocked shots with 2.5 per game and added 2.1 steals. Ramirez was one of only four players in the GNAC to average a double-double for the season.
Santosuosso led the team and was first in the GNAC in assists with 5.9 per game. Her 2.14 assist-to-turnover margin was also the best in the league. For the year, she is averaging 38.5 minutes per game which is tops in the conference. She was 11th in the GNAC in scoring with 12.5 points per game and fourth in the league with 2.3 three pointers made per game. Her 2.5 steals per game ranked her seventh..
Ragaglia led the Wildcats and was fourth in the GNAC in scoring with 15.8 points per game. She was fifth in the conference free throw percentage (.748) and minutes played (34.5). She was in double figures in all but two games this season and had three 20 point performances. In the team’s win against Pine Manor, she set a new school record with eight three pointers.
Johnson & Wales is 13-12 on the season and will return to action on Friday, February 29th when they travel to Emmanuel for the GNAC semifinals, starting at 5:00 p.m.
Johnson & Wales Women’s Basketball Downs Emerson, 66-64
in GNAC Quarterfinals

Providence, R.I. – Junior Johanna Santosuosso (Salem, N.H.) scored a team high 17 points and added six rebounds and five assists to lead the Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball team to a 66-64 victory against Emerson in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference quarterfinal contest at the Harborside Recreation Center on Tuesday evening. With the win the Wildcats advance to the GNAC semifinals on Friday, February 29th. The game will be played at Emmanuel, the No. 1 seed in the tournament.
Johnson & Wales had five players in double figures in the victory. Sophomore Alexia Ramirez (San Marcos, Calif.) scored 15 points and added nine rebounds while sophomore Jeniphr Moxley (Lakewood, Wash.) added 14 points and eight boards for the Wildcats. Freshman Morgan Wilson (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) and junior Alyse Ragaglia (West Newbury, Mass.) each had 10 points in the victory.
Freshman Kathy Andrade (Hull, Mass.) led the way for Emerson with 22 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Junior Lauren Vassallo (Oxford, Conn.) also had a double-double with 18 points and 15 boards in the setback for the Lions. Junior Maude Okrah (Rutland, Mass.) was also in double figures with 11 points and seven rebounds in the loss.
Emerson jumped out an early 14-4 lead after a jumper by Okrah with 13:44 left in the first half. The visiting Lions held Johnson & Wales to 1-15 from the floor in the first six minutes of the game. Johnson & Wales responded, however with a 14-4 run of their own and tied the game at 18-18 on a three pointer by Ramirez with 7:04 remaining in the half. The two teams then traded baskets through the remainder of the half as JWU took the 26-25 lead into the locker room at halftime. JWU forced 13 Emerson turnovers in the half and had the lead at halftime despite shooting just 27.5% (11-for-40) from the field, including 3-of-17 from behind the three point stripe.
It was a back and forth battle throughout the early stages of the second half with the score tied 49-49 with 6:42 left in the contest. Johnson & Wales took a 60-57 lead on a free throw by Santosuosso with 2:31 remaining. The visiting Lions regained the lead when a layup by Okrah made the score 63-62 with twenty eight seconds left. After an Emerson foul, Moxley hit a pair of free throws to give the Wildcats the 64-63 lead. Ramirez then hit a pair of free throws to extend the JWU lead to 66-63 with nine seconds on the clock. Emerson’s Andrea Kosek (Latham, N.Y.) was sent to the free throw line with four seconds left in the game. She hit one of two free throws to pull the Lions to 66-64. After a missed free throw by Santosuosso, a three-pointer by Kosek hit off the backboard as the Wildcats held on for the 66-64 win.
With the win Johnson & Wales is now 13-12 on the season while Emerson falls to 15-11. The Wildcats will take travel to Emmanuel and take on the host Saints in the semifinals of the GNAC Championship on February 29th.
Johnson & Wales Women’s Basketball Knocks Off St. Joseph’s of Connecticut, 65-51

Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball team recorded a school record 10th conference win with a 65-51 victory against Joseph’s of Connecticut in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest on the road on Saturday afternoon.
Johnson & Wales had three players in double figures in the victory. Junior Alyse Ragaglia (West Newbury, Mass.) scored a game-high 24 points and added seven rebounds and four assists. Johanna Santosuosso (Salem, N.H.) scored 16 points and dished off six assists while and added four steals sophomore Jeniphr Moxley (Lakewood, Wash.) rounded out the double figure scorers with 12 points and five boards in the win.
St. Joseph’s was led by Illaria Schiano who tallied 23 points and added three rebounds and three assists. Marquia Davis tallied eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds in the setback.
With the win JWU improves to 12-12 on the season and 10-3 in the GNAC while St. Joseph’s of Connecticut falls to 4-20 overall, 1-13 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Tuesday, February 26th when they host Emerson in the quarterfinals of the GNAC Championship, starting at 5:30 p.m.
Johnson & Wales Women’s Basketball Downs Pine Manor, 88-56

Providence, R.I. – Junior Alyse Ragaglia (West Newbury, Mass.) set a school record with eight three pointers to help lead the Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball team to a commanding 88-56 victory against Pine Manor in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Harborside Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon. The game was the final regular season home game for seniors Ann Dwyer (Yardley, Pa.), Teri Prado (Columbus, N.J.) and Nicole Laferriere (Windham, N.H.). Ragaglia finished with 30 points in the win for the Wildcats.
Junior Johanna Santosuosso (Salem, N.H.) had 26 points, eight assists and seven steals in the victory for Johnson & Wales. Sophomore Jeniphr Moxley (Lakewood, Wash.) was also in double figures with 11 points and seven rebounds for the Wildcats.
Pine Manor was led by junior Amanda Dennis (Haverhill, Mass.) with 17 points, ine rebounds and six blocks. Freshman Enjolee Phillips (Hartford, Conn.) added 16 points, 10 rebounds and five steals while senior Laura Cecil (Solon, Ohio) narrowly missed a triple-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists in the setback for the Gators.
The two teams traded leads throughout the early stages of the first half with the score tied 14-14 with 10:55 left on the clock. Johnson & Wales then used a 7-0 run, capped by a three-pointer by Ragaglia to give the Wildcats a 21-14 lead. The Wildcats expanded their advantage to 34-19 on a three pointer by Laferriere with 4:33 left. JWU led by as many as 21 in the first half and took the 47-28 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Johnson & Wales continued to build on the lead and took a 32 point advantage (63-31) on a three pointer by Santosuosso with 15:31 left in the game. The Wildcats led by as many as 38 after a jumper by Ragaglia gave the team a 83-45 lead with 8:04 remaining. The team then cruised to the 88-56 victory.
With the win JWU improves to 11-12 on the season and 9-3 in the GNAC while Pine Manor falls to 6-15 overall, 2-8 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, February 23rd when they travel to St. Joseph’s of Connecticut for a GNAC contest, starting at 1:00 p.m.
JWU Women’s Basketball Participates In Think Pink Initiative

Providence, R.I. – On Saturday, February 9th, the Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball team participated in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association “Think Pink” Initiative. The Wildcats community raised over $300 for breast cancer research with the money go to the WBCA/Debra Yow Breast Cancer Research Fund and the Gloria Gemma Foundation.
“I’m glad that we had to the opportunity to participate in this great event,” said first-year head coach T.J. Ciolfi. “The community really got behind us for a fantastic cause.”
Over 250 people witnessed the Wildcats post a 71-62 win against St. Joseph’s of Maine. The team is now 8-3 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference and in third place in the league standings. The team will return to action on Saturday, February 16th when they host Pine Manor at 1:00. The game is the final regular season home game for the Wildcats and will also be the annual House of Blue celebration. All students in attendance will receive a free t-shirt and there will be free food, giveaways, contests and prizes.

Boston, Mass. – Sophomore Alexia Ramirez (San Marcos, Calif.) recorded a double-double with 29 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball team to an 80-66 victory against Simmons in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest on the road on Tuesday night.
Junior Alyse Ragaglia (West Newbury, Mass.) added 27 points and four rebounds while junior Maria Valletta (Greenville, R.I.) rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points, three rebounds and three assists in the victory for Johnson & Wales.
Simmons was led by Stephanie Fox who notched a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Lauren Kreckie added 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the setback for the Sharks.
Simmons jumped out to an early lead and held a 23-12 advantage after a jumper by Sarah Clayton with 8:52 left in the first half. The Wildcats chipped away at the lead, however and trailed just 39-37 heading into the locker room at halftime.
Johnson & Wales took its first lead of the game on a three point play by Ramirez at the 19:14 mark of the second half. The two teams then traded leads throughout the majority of the second half with the score tied 56-56 with 6:50 remaining in the contest. The Wildcats controlled the action down the stretch, and outscored Simmons by a 24-10 stretch to take the 80-66 victory.
With the win JWU improves to 10-12 on the season and 8-3 in the GNAC while Simmons falls to 9-12 overall, 7-2 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, February 16th when they Pine Manor in a GNAC contest, starting at 1:00 p.m.

Providence, R.I. – Junior Alyse Ragaglia (West Newbury, Mass.) scored a game-high 24 points and added four rebounds to lead the Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball team to a 71-62 victory against St. Joseph’s of Maine in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Harborside Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats were successful off the court as well as the community participated in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association “Think Pink” Initiative, raising over $300 for breast cancer research.

St. Joseph’s sophomore Meghan Daigle (Grantham, N.H.) notched a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Alysn Ludwig (Waldoboro, Maine) added 10 points, four rebounds and two assists in the setback for the Monks.
St. Joseph’s jumped out to the early lead and held a 16-6 advantage after a jumper by Daigle with 10:35 left in the first half. The visiting Monks led 26-18 before JWU responded with a 9-0 run, capped by a three pointer by Ragaglia to take the 27-26 lead with 3:35 on the clock. The Wildcats would head to the locker room at halftime with a 33-32 lead.
The Monks opened the second half with a 12-0 run and led 44-33 with 14:35 remaining in the contest after a layup by Ludwig. Once again, the Wildcats responded and tied the game at 54-54 on a three pointer by Ragaglia with 7:38 left. The game was tied 58-58 with just over five minutes remaining. The Wildcats then closed the game with a 13-4 run to take the 71-62 victory.
With the win JWU improves to 9-12 on the season and 7-3 in the GNAC while St. Joseph’s of Maine falls to 14-7 overall, 7-2 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Tuesday, February 12th when they travel to Simmons for a GNAC contest, starting at 7:00 p.m.

New Haven, Conn. – Sophomore Alexia Ramirez (San Marcos, Calif.) scored a game high 18 points and added seven rebounds to lead the Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball team to a 79-60 victory against Albertus Magnus in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest on the road on Wednesday evening.
Johnson & Wales had four players in double figures, including junior Maria Valetta (Greenville, R.I.) with 17 points while junior Alyse Ragaglia (West Newbury, Mass.) added 10 points and seven boards. Albertus Magnus was led by freshman Nikki McClease’s (New Haven, Conn.) double-double with 15 Points and 13 Rebounds while sophomore Krystal Bryant (New Haven, Conn.) also had a double-double with 11 Points and a game high 14 Rebounds in the setback.
With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 8-12 overall, 6-3 in the GNAC while Albertus Magnus falls to 9-11, 2-6 in league play. JWU Women’s Basketball Suffers 63-62 Setback Against Norwich

Northfield, Vt. -- Kayleigh Shappy hit two free throws with 12 seconds remaining to lift the Norwich University women’s basketball team to a 63-62 victory over visiting Johnson & Wales in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Andrews Hall on Saturday afternoon.
Johnson & Wales was led by junior Johanna Santosuosso (Salem, N.H.), who scored a game-high 17 points. Fellow junior Alyse Ragaglia (West Newbury, Mass.) and junior Maria Valletta (Greenville, R.I.) each added 12 points apiece. Sophomore Alexia Ramirez (San Marcos, Calif.) chipped in a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds in the setback for the Wildcats.
Sophomore Erica Rate led Norwich with 16 points. Christine Daniels and Laural McWilliams joined Rate in double-figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Ally Daniels chipped in eight points and a team-high 13 rebounds in the win for the Cadets.
Johnson & Wales played well early, and the Wildcats held a 7-3 lead at the 17:31 mark. Norwich quickly rallied with a 13-0 run to open a 16-7 lead at 13:15 mark. Rate ignited the Cadets spurt with three three-pointers. Four straight points by JWU cut Norwich’s lead down to 16-11 two minutes later, but a 9-0 NU burst gave the Cadets their largest lead of the half at 25-11 with 9:37 to play before intermission. The Cadets kept their lead in double-figures throughout the remainder of the first half, and they took a 37-24 lead into the locker room.
Johnson & Wales trailed by 13 points early in the second half, but the Wildcats came all the way back and took their first lead of the second stanza with 29 seconds to play as Santosuosso hit a three-pointer from the right wing to give the team the 62-21 lead After a foul by JWU, Shappy hit a pair of free throws with :12 left on the clock to put Norwich ahead 63-62. The Wildcats had one last chance with time running out, but weren’t able to capitalize as the Cadets held on for the 63-62 win.
JWU is now 7-12 overall and 5-3 in the GNAC while Norwich improves to 6-13, 5-3 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, February 6th when they travel to Albertus Magnus for a GNAC contest at 7:00 p.m.
Johnson & Wales Women’s Basketball Defeats Daniel Webster, 85-52

Providence, R.I. – Sophomore Alexia Ramirez (San Marcos, Calif.) tallied a double-double with 21 points and added 14 rebounds to lead the Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball team to an impressive 85-52 victory against Daniel Webster in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Harborside Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon. Ramirez also added seven assists, seven steals and six blocks for JWU.
Junior Johanna Santosuosso (Salem, N.H.) notched a double-double with 19 points and 10 assists while fellow junior Alyse Ragaglia (West Newbury, Mass.) was also in double-figures for the Wildcats with 10 points, five assists and three rebounds in the victory.
Daniel Webster was led by senior Erin Moseley (Sterling, Mass.) with 20 points and eight rebounds while freshman Joyce Chagan (Boothbay, Maine) chipped in with 10 points and four boards in the setback for the Eagles.
Johnson & Wales jumped out to an early 14-4 lead after a free throw by Ramirez at the 13:25 mark. The Wildcats extended their lead to 33-14 on a jumper by Ragaglia with 4:42 left in the half. JWU would take the 47-21 lead into the locker room after holding DWC to 32% from the field while forcing 19 turnovers.
The Wildcats continued to build their lead throughout the second half and had a 66-30 advantage after a jumper by Ramirez with 13:51 left in the contest. JWU led by as many as 38 during the later stages of the second half before taking the 85-52 victory.
With the win JWU improves to 7-10 on the season and 5-1 in the GNAC while Daniel Webster falls to 9-7 overall, 2-4 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Thursday, January 31st when they host Suffolk in a GNAC contest, starting at 7:00 p.m.

team dropped a 75-61 decision against Emmanuel in a Great Northeast Athletic
Conference contest at the Yawkey Center on Wednesday evening.
The Wildcats had a balanced scoring attack, with four players scoring in double
figures. Sophomore Jeniphr Moxley (Lakewood, Wash.) led the team with 14
points while fellow sophomore Alexia Ramirez (San Marcos, Calif.) recorded a
double-double, scoring 13 points and collecting a game-high 14 boards. Senior
Nicole Laferriere (Windham, N.H.) tallied 11 points, while junior Johanna Santosuosso
(Salem , N.H.) notched in with 10 points and a team-high 7 assists.
Emmanuel sophomore guard Iman Davis (Toms River, N.J.) led Emmanuel a game-high
22 points and pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds. Jade Paez (Bronx,
N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists while Brittany Bushman
(Portsmouth, N.H.) chipped in with 15 points for the Saints.
With the loss Johnson & Wales is now 6-10 overall, 4-1 in the GNAC while
Emmanuel improves to 11-5, 5-0 in league play. The Wildcats will return

Newton, Mass. – The Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball placed four players in double figures in the team’s 67-56 victory against Mount Ida in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest on the road on Monday evening.
Junior Johanna Santosuosso (Salem, N.H.) led the team with 14 points and added eight assists while sophomore Alexia Ramirez (San Marcos, Calif.) narrowly missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. Providence, R.I. – Junior Johanna Santosuosso (Salem, N.H.) scored a career high 28 points and added five assists and four steals to lead the Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball team to a 75-52 victory against Emerson in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Harborside Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon. The win was the third straight for the Wildcats.
Junior Maria Valetta (Greenville, R.I.) notched 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds while senior Nicole Laferriere (Windham, N.H.) added 10 points and seven boards in the victory for JWU.
Junior Lauren Vassallo (Oxford, Conn.) narrowly missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds while sophomore Andrea Kosek (Latham, N.Y.) added 11 points, six rebounds and three assists in the setback for the Lions.
Emerson jumped out to an early lead and held an 11-4 advantage after a three pointer by Kosek with 16:15 remaining in the first half. Johnson & Wales responded with a 9-2 run and knotted the game at 13:13 midway through the first half. The two teams then traded leads before the Wildcats closed the half on a 17-6 run to take the 40-26 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The visiting Lions would get as close as 13 points midway through the second half when a layup by senior Lindsay DeStefano (Glocester, R.I.) made the score 55-42 with 9:27 left in the game. That would be as close as the Lions would get, however as the Wildcats led by as many as 25 late in the game before taking the 75-52 victory. JWU forced 26 turnovers and held Emerson to just 28.8% shooting from the field for the contest.

Providence, R.I. – Sophomore Alexia Ramirez (San Marcos, Calif.) recorded her ninth double-double of the season to lead the Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball team to an impressive 68-59 victory against Lasell in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Harborside Recreation Center on Tuesday evening.
Junior Alyse Ragaglia (West Newbury, Mass.) scored a game-high 17 points and added six assists and four rebounds while fellow junior Johanna Santosuosso (Salem, N.H.) notched a double-double and narrowly missed a triple-double with 12 points, 10 steals and nine assists in the win for the Wildcats. Junior Maria Valetta (Greenville, R.I.) rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points and seven boards for JWU.
Senior Lauren Picozzi (Coventry, R.I.) led the way for Lasell with 15 points and six rebounds while junior Shauna Kelly (North Quincy, Mass.) added 12 points and eight boards in the setback for the Lasers.
The two teams traded leads early in first half with the score tied 10-10 five minutes in. JWU then used a 12-2 run, capped by a jumper by senior Nicole Laferriere (Windham, N.H.) with 11:05 left in the first half. Lasell cut the lead to just three points when a layup by junior Shantell Jeter (Brighton, Mass.) made the score 24-21 with 7:58 remaining on the clock. JWU then closed the half on a 17-7 run and took the 41-28 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Wildcats continued to build on their lead during the second half and took a twenty point lead on a three pointer by Ragaglia, putting the team ahead 64-44 with 6:24 left in the game. JWU then held on for the 68-59 victory.

Nashua, N.H. – Junior Alyse Ragaglia (West Newbury, Mass.) led the Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball team with 18 points while adding three rebounds and two assists in the teams 83-76 victory against Rivier in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference on the road on Saturday afternoon.
Junior Maria Valetta (Greenville, R.I.) notched a double-double for JWU with 13 points and 10 rebounds while four other players were also in double figures for the Wildcats. Sophomore Alexia Ramirez (San Marcos, Calif.) 12 points and added five rebounds while sophomore Jeniphr Moxley (Lakewood, Wash.) added 11 points and nine boards in the victory for the Wildcats Junior Johanna Santosuosso (Salem, N.H.) notched 12 points and seven assists while senior Nicole Laferriere (Windham, N.H.) rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points for JWU..

The two teams traded leads throughout the duration of the first half with the score tied 31-31 on a jumper by Moxley with 1:39 left in the half. The Wildcats then took the 36-34 lead into the locker room at halftime.
JWU opened the second half with a 14-1 run, capped by a jumper by Ramirez to take a 50-30 lead with 17:35 remaining in the contest. Rivier cut the lead to 77-68 with just under four minutes remaining, but it was not enough as the Wildcats held on for the 83-76 victory

Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales women’s basketball team dropped an 85-72 decision against Connecticut College in a non-conference contest at the Harborside Recreation Center on Tuesday evening.
Johnson & Wales had four players in double figures, including sophomore Alexia Ramirez (San Marcos, Calif.) who finished with 18 points and eight rebounds. Junior Johanna Santosuosso (Salem, N.H.) and sophomore Jeniphr Moxley (Lakewood, Wash.) each tallied 16 points in the setback for the Wildcats.
Connecticut College freshman Cindy Roseen (Wolfeboro, N.H.) led all scorers with 20 points and 17 rebounds while sophomore Emily Cummings (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) added 19 points and three assists in the victory for the Camels. Senior Katy Serafin (Carmel, N.Y.) had a solid all around game for Connecticut College with 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Johnson & Wales jumped out to the early lead and held a 24-16 advantage after a jumper by Moxley with 9:30 left in the first half. Connecticut College chipped away at the lead through the later stages of the first half and tied the game at 36-36 on a layup by Roseen with :53 left on the clock. The two teams headed into the locker room tied at halftime.
Connecticut College used a 13-2 run to open the second half, capped by a jumper by Cummings to put the Camels ahead 49-38 with 16:05 remaining in the contest. The Wildcats responded however and cut the lead to just one when a three pointer by junior Alyse Ragaglia (West Newbury, Mass.) made the score 53-52 with 12:50 left. The Camels then used a 17-4 run, including a layup by Serafin to take the 70-56 advantage with 7:26 to go in the game. Connecticut College would then hold on for the 85-72 victory

Providence, R.I. – Sophomore Curtia Humbert (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored a game-high 25 points and added 10 rebounds to lead Nichols to a 77-65 victory against Johnson & Wales in a non-conference contest at the Harborside Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Alexia Ramirez (San Marcos, Calif.) recorded her ninth double-double of the season to lead the way for Johnson & Wales with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Nichols then used a 10-2 run, capped by pair of free throws by sophomore Alena Jasinski (Canton, Conn.) to take the 19-11 lead with 10:28 left in the half. Nichols led by as many as 10 points when a jumper by freshman Jessica Nelson (North Providence, R.I.) gave the Bison a 32-22 lead with 2:07 on the clock. Johnson & Wales closed the half on an 8-2 run and trailed 34-30 heading into the locker room at halftime.
Johnson & Wales opened the second half on an 8-3 run, capped by a layup by Ramirez to take a 38-37 lead with 17:11 remaining in the game. The Wildcats led by as many as seven after a layup by Valletta made the score 50-43 with 10:57 on the clock. Nichols responded, however, and went on an 18-1 run, capped by a jumper by Humbert with 5:08 remaining in the contest. The Bison led by as many as 16 down the stretch before taking the 77-65 victory

Providence, R.I. – Junior Alyse Ragaglia (West Newbury, Mass.) led all scorers with 23 points as the Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball squad dropped a.79-76 decision against Plymouth State in a non-conference contest at the Harborside Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Alexia Ramirez (San Marcos, Calif.) recorded her eighth double-double of the season to lead the way for Johnson & Wales with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Maria Valetta (Greenville, R.I) also had a double-double for the Wildcats with 12 points and 12 boards. Junior Johanna Santosuosso (Salem, N.H.) added 16 points and eight assists while sophomore Jeniphr Moxley (Lakewood, Wash.) added 10 points, four rebounds and four assists in the setback for JWU.
Freshman Amanda Kania (Manchester, N.H.) paced Plymouth State with 21 points and a game-high 16 rebounds while senior Lauren Daniels (Concord, N.H.) added a double-double for the Panthers with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Plymouth State controlled the boards in the game, out rebounding JWU by a 62-38 margin.
Johnson & Wales jumped out to an early lead and held a 17-10 advantage after a layup by Moxley with 9:27 left in the half. Plymouth State responded, however and took a 23-22 lead on a basket by Daniels with 6:11 on the clock. The visiting Panthers held the lead for the remainder of the half until a jumper by JWU freshman Morgan Wilson (LaGrangeville, N.J.) with :05 left gave the Wildcats the 33-32 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.
Plymouth State scored the first five points of the second half and took their largest lead of the game, a 37-33 advantage. Johnson & Wales then used a 12-2 run, capped by a three-pointer by Ragaglia with 16:29 left in the contest to go ahead 45-39. Plymouth State once again responded with an 8-2 run, tying the game at 47-47 with 13:59 remaining. The two teams traded baskets with the score tied 53-53 with 11:23 left on the clock. The visiting Panthers then used an 11-5 run when a jumper by sophomore Karly Gray (Southampton, Mass.) gave the squad the 62-56 lead with 6:47 left in the game. Plymouth led by as many as seven points, 69-62, before JWU tied the game for the final time on a four-point play by Ragaglia, making the score 69-69 with 2:52 left. Plymouth State went on an 8-4 run and led 77-73 before a three-pointer by Ramirez made the game 77-76 with less than two seconds on the clock. After a pair of free throws by freshman Alex Marcell (Pittsford, Vt.), a three-pointer by Ragaglia bounced off the back of the rim at the buzzer to give Plymouth State the 79-76 victory.
With the loss JWU falls to 2-6 on the season while Plymouth State improves to 5-5. The Wildcats will return to action on Thursday, January 3rd when they travel to WPI for a non-conference contest, starting at 5:30pm.

Freshman Morgan Wilson’s (LaGrangeville, N.J.) jump shot
with 2:47 remaining gave visiting Johnson & Wales the 79-78
lead and put the team up for good and the Wildcats defeated the
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s women’s basketball
team, 91-85, in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader
at the Tripp Athletic Center Wednesday evening.
The Corsairs had rallied from a 47-34 halftime deficit to take
the lead, going ahead for the final time on a layup by senior forward
Lindsay Marsh (Bristol, Conn.), 78-77 with 3:17 remaining. The
Wildcats made five free throws, including four by junior Alyse
Ragaglia (West Newbury, Mass.) in the final minute to preserve
their lead.
Marsh led all scorers with 26 points, junior forward Vicki Andruszkiewicz (Danvers,
Mass.) added 24, senior forward Lisa Satkevich (Quincy, Mass.) contributed 18
points, and freshman forward Tashauna Ashmeade (Hyannis, Mass.) added 10.
Sophomore Alexis Ramirez (San Marcos, Calif.) had another double-double with
22 points and 11 rebounds to lead JWU while Ragaglia added 19. Sophomore
Maria Valletta (Greenville, R.I.) had 18 and Wilson contributed 10. Junior
Johanna Santosuosso (Salem, N.H.) chipped in with 12 assists in the win for the
Wildcats.
Johnson & Wales improved to 2-5 with the victory, while UMass Dartmouth fell
to 3-6 with the defeat. The Wildcats will host Plymouth State Saturday in a double
header, starting at 1:00 p.m.

New London, Conn. – The Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball
team dropped a 69-58 decision against Coast Guard in a non-conference contest
on the road on Thursday evening.
JWU sophomore Alexia Ramirez (San Marcos, Calif.) led the team with 19 points
and 16 rebounds while junior Alyse Ragaglia (West Newbury, Mass.) also had 19
points in the loss for the Wildcats.
Coast Guard senior Natalie Moyer led all scorers with 21 points while sophomore
Melissa Martinelli had 18 points and a season-high 17 reboundsSenior Corinne
McCormack had a double-double for the Bears with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Coast Guard used a an 11-2 run in the first half to take its largest lead of
the half, 28-16 with 7:31 left before Johnson & Wales closed the gap to five
by scoring the final five points of the half making the score 34-29.
The Bears scored the first five points of the second half and Johnson & Wales
would get as close as 52-49 on a basket by freshman Erica Parker (Freeport, N.Y.)
with 5:59 left before Martinelli and Moyer each hit a shot to push the lead to
56-49 with 4:21 left. The Bears would then hold on for the 69-58 victory.
With the loss Johnson & Wales falls to 1-5 while Coast Guard improves to
6-1 on the season. The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, December
12th when they travel to UMass Dartmouth for a non-conference contest, starting
at 5:30 p.m.

Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball
squad dropped a.78-62 decision against intra-state rival Rhode Island College
in a non-conference contest at the Murray Center on Tuesday evening.
Sophomore Alexia Ramirez (San Marcos, Calif.) paced Johnson & Wales with
a game-high 20 points and 19 rebounds for her fifth double-double on the season. Sophomore
Maria Valetta (Greenville, R.I) also had a double-double for the Wildcats with
12 points and 12 boards. Junior Tayla Martin (Cumberland, R.I.) led the
way for Rhode Island College with 19 points and six rebounds while sophomore
Alice Mullen (Saunderstown, R.I.) narrowly missed a double-double with 14 points
and nine rebounds.
The two teams struggled through the early parts of the first half with RIC leading
10-7 after 10 minutes of play. The Anchorwomen led by six on a jumper by
junior Michelle McNamee (Cranston, R.I.), making the score 15-9 with 8:32 left. The
Wildcats would respond, however, and cut the lead to just one on a three-pointer
by Ramirez. RIC took the 25-24 lead into the locker room at halftime. Neither
team shot over 25% from the field.
RIC opened the second half on a 12-4 run, going ahead 37-28 with 16:55 left in
the game on a layup by senior Sherri Heard (Coventry, R.I.). The Anchorwomen
led by as much as 15 points midway through the second half and then took the
78-62 victory.
With the loss JWU falls to 1-4 on the season while Rhode Island College improves
to 4-2. The Wildcats will return to action on Thursday, December 6th when
they travel to Coast Guard for a non-conference contest at 7:30 p.m.

Falls To Salve Regina, 81-60

Newport, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball team dropped an 81-60 decision against Salve Regina in a non-conference contest at the Rodgers Recreation Center on Thursday evening.
Senior Johanna Santosuosso (Salem, N.H.) and fellow junior Alyse Ragaglia (West Newbury, Mass.) led Johnson & Wales with 14 points each. Sophomore Alexia Ramirez (San Marcos, Calif.) played well inside for the Wildcats, grabbing 18 rebounds and blocking five shots while tallying six points and five assists in the setback.
Junior Allegra Lovoy (Charlestown, R.I.) recorded a double-double for Salve Regina with 20 points, 11 rebounds while senior Kristen Stone (West Roxbury, Mass.) added 18 points and 13 rebounds for the Seahawks.
With the loss Johnson & Wales is now 1-3 on the season while Salve Regina improves to 3-3 for the year. The Wildcats will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 4, when they travel to Rhode Island College for a non-conference contest at 5:30pm.

Takes Third At SUNY Maritime Tourney

Throggs Neck, N.Y. – Sophomore Alexia Ramirez (San Marcos, Calif.) was named to the All-Tournament team after leading the Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball team to a third-place finish at the SUNY Maritime Tip-Off this weekend. JWU dropped a 78-66 decision against Maine Maritime on Friday afternoon before rebounding for an 85-65 victory against California Maritime on Saturday afternoon.
Ramirez notched 14 points and 14 rebounds against Maine Maritime and tallied her second double-double of the weekend with 20 points and 18 boards against California Maritime. In the victory against California Maritime, JWU had five players in double figures, including junior Johanna Santosuosso (Salem, N.H.) who had 17 points, six rebounds and five assists. Junior Alyse Ragaglia (West Newbury, Mass.) was at 11.5 points in the two games while senior Nicole Laferriere (Windham, N.H.) was at 10.5 points per game as both averaged double figures for the Wildcats during the weekend
Johnson & Wales is now 1-1 on the season and will return to action on Tuesday, November 20th when they travel to Clark for a non-conference contest, starting at 5:00 p.m.

JWU Names T.J. Ciolfi Women’sBasketball

Providence, R.I. – Johnson & Wales University director
of athletics John Parente announced the hiring of T.J. Ciolfi as
the school’s new head women’s basketball coach. Ciolfi
replaces Bethany Ellis who left the school to pursue other opportunities.
“Much like Bethany did, T.J. brings a dynamic element to the
team,” said Parente. “His drive and dedication to Johnson
& Wales are as important as his knowledge and love of the game.”
A Johnson & Wales University Hall of Famer, Ciolfi has spent
the past five years as an assistant for the Wildcats men’s
program and was an integral member of the staff that led the school
to its first ever NCAA appearance in 2004.
An accomplished player at JWU, Ciolfi finished his career with 1,038
points, a record 200 three-point field goals, and a highly-respectable
three-point field goal percentage of 37.4. A native of North Providence,
R.I., Ciolfi was a former standout for the Cougars basketball squad.
The 2007-08 JWU women’s basketball season will tip off on
November 16-17 at the SUNY-Maritime Tournament.
