JWU Men’s Tennis Garners GNAC Accolades

Providence, R.I. – Several members of the Johnson & Wales University men’s tennis team, the 2008 Great Northeast Athletic Conference champions, were honored by the league as all-conference selections.  Seniors Stuart Fodiman (Oakville, Conn.) and John Bauernfiend (High Bridge, N.J.) were named first team selections.  Senior Tit Hudarin (Valenje, Slovenia) was also a first-team honoree and was tabbed as the Co-Rookie of the Year.  Head Coach Adam Spring was named the Coach of the Year.
 
Fodiman played at first singles player for every match this season, posting a perfect 4-0 record in the GNAC.  He recorded a 9-3 record in singles action and was 6-6 playing at No. 1 doubles for a combined 15-9 record.  He was also named the Most Valuable Player of the GNAC Championship.
 
Hudarin made an immediate impact in his only season in a Wildcats uniform, posting an 11-1 record at No. 2 singles and an 11-1 record at No. 2 doubles for an astounding 22-2 mark on the year.
 
Bauernfiend played at third singles, posting an 8-4 record on the year.  He also notched a 6-6 record in doubles action for the Wildcats.
 
Johnson & Wales finished the 2008 season with 11 wins en route to both the regular season and tournament championships.

JWU Men’s Tennis Wins GNAC Championship With 5-4 Victory Over Suffolk

Weymouth, Mass.—The Johnson & Wales men’s tennis team captured the 2008 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship with a 5-4 victory against Suffolk at the Weymouth Tennis club on Saturday evening.  Senior Stuart Fodiman (Oakville, Conn.) was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

Johnson & Wales took a 2-1 lead after doubles play as Fodiman and senior John Bauernfeind (High Bridge, N.J.) posted an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles.  Senior Tit Hudarin (Valenje, Slovenia) sophomore Henrik Arnbert (Gothenburg, Sweden) took an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles to give the Wildcats the 2-1 advantage.    

In singles action, Suffolk responded with wins at No. 3, 4 and 5 while Fodiman and Hudarin notched victories at No. 1 and 2 singles respectively to tie the match at 4-4.  In the final match of the evening, sophomore Devin Kitterick (Bridgewater, Mass.) had a thrilling win at No. 6 singles.  Kitterick dropped the first set 7-5 and rallied for a 7-5 win in the second set, tying the match at 1-1.  In the third set, Kitterick came back from being down 4-0 and 5-2 to notch the 7-5 win and give the Wildcats the title.

With the win JWU is now 11-1 while Suffolk falls to 8-5.

JWU Men’s Tennis Advances To GNAC Finals With 7-2 Win Over Norwich
April 24, 2008

Providence, R.I.—The Johnson & Wales men’s tennis team advanced to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference championship match with a 7-2 victory against Norwich in the semifinals of the conference tournament at Providence College on Thursday afternoon

Johnson & Wales senior Tit Hudarin (Valenje, Slovenia) picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles and teamed with sophomore Henrik Arnbert (Gothenburg, Sweden) for an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles.    Arnbert also had a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles for the Wildcats.  Sophomore Devin Kitterick (Bridgewater, Mass.) was near perfect on the day, posting a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singled and an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.

With the win JWU is now 10-1 while Norwich falls to 6-6.  The Wildcats will travel to the Weymouth Tennis Club on Saturday, April 26th where they will take on Suffolk in the GNAC Championship, starting at 6:30 p.m.

JWU Men’s Tennis Hosts Norwich In GNAC Semifinals

Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University men’s tennis team will host Norwich in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference semifinals on Thursday, April 24th at 3:00 p.m. at Providence College.

The Wildcats captured the GNAC regular season championship with a perfect 4-0 record in league play.  The team is 9-1 on the season with a nine match winning streak.  Senior Tit Hudarin (Valenje, Slovenia) leads the squad with a 9-1 record in singles action and a 9-1 mark in doubles.  Stuart Fodiman (Oakville, Conn.) is currently 8-2 in singles for the Wildcats.

The winner of the semifinals will advance to the GNAC Championship on Sunday, April 27th at the Weymouth Tennis Club at 6:30 p.m.
 

JWU Men’s Tennis Defeats Emerson, 8-1

Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales men’s tennis team wrapped up an undefeated season in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action with an 8-1 win against Emerson at the Moses Brown Courts on Saturday afternoon.

JWU opened up the afternoon with a perfect 3-0 record in doubles action and wrapped up the victory with a 5-1 mark in singles play.  Senior Tit Hudarin (Valenje, Slovenia) was 2-0 on the day for the Wildcats, posting a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles and an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles.  Senior Stuart Fodiman (Oakville, Conn.) had a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles and teamed with fellow senior John Bauernfeind (High Bridge, N.J.) for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.  Bauernfeind also picked up a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 3 singles for the Wildcats.

With the win, Johnson & Wales improves to 9-1 and a perfect 4-0 in the GNAC while Emerson falls to 3-4 for the year, 1-2 in league play.  The Wildcats will return to action on Thursday, April 24th when they host the semifinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament.  A time and place will be announced later this week.

JWU Men’s Tennis Blanks Mitchell, 9-0
April 16, 2008

New London, Conn. – The Johnson & Wales men’s tennis team posted a 9-0 shutout victory over Mitchell in a non-conference contest on the road on Wednesday afternoon.

Johnson & Wales senior Stuart Fodiman (Oakville, Conn.) posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles and teamed with senior John Bauernfeind (High Bridge, N.J.) for an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles.  Bauernfeind also had a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.

With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 8-1 while Mitchell falls to 2-6.  The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, April 19th when they host Emerson in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest, starting at 12:00 p.m.

JWU Men’s Tennis Defeats Coast Guard, 6-3

New London, Conn. – The Johnson & Wales men’s tennis team notched a 6-3 win against Coast Guard in a non-conference contest on the road on Tuesday afternoon.

Johnson & Wales senior Tit Hudarin (Velenje, Slovenia), the reigning Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, posted an impressive 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles and teamed with sophomore Henrick Arnbert (Gothenberg, Sweden) to pick up an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles.  Sophomore Devin Kitterick (Bridgewater, Mass.) had a 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles and also posted an 8-5 win with junior Roshan Thacker (Bethlehem, Pa.) at No. 3 doubles in the victory for the Wildcats.

With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 7-1 while Coast Guard falls to 2-11.  The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, April 16th when they travel to Mitchell for a non-conference contest, starting at 3:30 p.m.

New Haven, Conn. – The Johnson & Wales men’s tennis team blanked Albertus Magnus, 9-0 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest on the road on Saturday afternoon.

Johnson & Wales was perfect in singles action, winning all six matches without dropping a game.  It was more of the same in doubles play as the team won all three matches en route to the 9-0 win.

With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 6-1, 3-0 in the GNAC wile Albertus Magnus falls to 1-5, 0-3 in league play.  The Wildcats will return to action on Tuesday, April 15th when they travel to Coast Guard for a non-conference contest at 3:00 p.m.

JWU Men’s Tennis Downs Suffolk, 6-3

Providence, R.I.—The Johnson & Wales men’s tennis team notched a 6-3 victory against Suffolk in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Hope High School courts on Friday afternoon.

Senior Tit Hudarin (Velenje, Slovenia) and sophomore Stefano Kafati (Honduras, S.P.S.) each posted wins in singles and doubles action for Johnson & Wales.  Hudarin, senior Stuart Fodiman (Oakville, Conn.) and sophomore Devin Kitterick (Bridgewater, Mass.) each notched straight set singles triumphs on the day for the host Wildcats (5-1, 2-0 Great Northeast), while Kafati won his singles contest at the number five position in three sets and teamed up with freshman Jesse Wils (New York, N.Y.) for an 8-3 win at number three doubles.  The tandem of Hudarin and sophomore Henrik Arnbert (Gothenburg, Sweden) posted the other point of the day for Johnson & Wales with an 8-4 victory at the number two doubles spot.

Sophomore Jared Orkin (Newton, Mass.) and freshman John Samander (Curacao, Netherlands) were straight set winners in singles play at the number three and four spots, respectively, for the Rams, who also received a 9-7 win at number one doubles from the tandem of senior Pedro Soares (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and freshman Nick Pratt (Sutton, Mass.).

With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 5-1, 2-0 in the GNAC while Suffolk falls to 3-3, 1-1 in league play.  The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Albertus Magnus for a Great Northeast dual-match that begins at 1:00 p.m.

JWU Men’s Tennis Upends UMass Dartmouth, 8-1

Dartmouth, Mass. – The Johnson & Wales men’s tennis team posted an 8-1 victory against UMass Dartmouth in a non-conference contest at the UMD Athletic Complex on Thursday afternoon.

Johnson & Wales was perfect in singles action, winning all six matches.  Sophomore Stefano Kafati (Honduras) ran his record to a perfect 5-0 on the season in singles matches with a 6-4, 6-4 win in the fifth spot.  Senior Tit Hudarin (Velenje, Slovenia) posted an impressive 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles and teamed with sophomore Henrick Arnbert (Gothenberg, Sweden) to pick up an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles.

With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 4-1 while UMass Dartmouth falls to 1-4.  The Wildcats will return to action on Friday, April 11th when they host Suffolk in a GNAC contest at the Hope High School courts, starting at 3:30 p.m.

Milton, Mass. – The Johnson & Wales men’s tennis team posted an impressive 8-1 victory against Curry in a non-conference contest on the road on Thursday afternoon.

JWU had a perfect 6-0 record in singles action and wrapped up the victory with a 2-1 mark in doubles play.  Senior Tit Hudarin (Valenje, Slovenia) was 2-0 on the day for the Wildcats, posting a 7-6, 7-2 win at No. 2 singles and an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles.  Sophomore Stefano Kafati (Honduras) had a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles and posted an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles.

JWU Men’s Tennis Falls to WNEC, 7-2

Providence, R.I. -- The Johnson & Wales University men’s tennis squad dropped a 7-2 decision against Western New England in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Moses Brown on Sunday afternoon.

Western New England went 4-2 at singles and swept the three doubles matches en route to the 7-2 victory. Junior Stuart Fodiman (Oakville, Conn.) picked up a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 1 singles while freshman Devin Kitterick (Bridgewater, Mass.) posted a 36, 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles for the Wildcats.

With the loss Johnson & Wales is now 4-5 on the season, 2-3 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference while Western New England improves 8-1 overall, 5-0 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Monday, April 23rd when they host UMass Boston in a non-conference contest at 3:30 p.m.
