JWU Women’s Tennis Grabs GNAC Honors
November 16, 2007

Providence, R.I. – Several Johnson & Wales women’s tennis standouts were recognized by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, announced by the league office after a vote by the head coaches.   Head coach Alan Freedman earned Coach of the Year honors after leading the Wildcats to a 10-4 overall record and a 5-2 record in the GNAC with an appearance in the conference semifinals.  

Junior Olivia Molhant (Brussels, Belgium) was named a first team All-GNAC performer while freshman Melissa Engel (Traverse City, Mich.) was named a second team performer

Molhant spent the season at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles for JWU.  The third-year standout posted an 8-5 record in singles play and was 10-2 in doubles action for the Wildcats. 

Engel made an immediate impact on the JWU program, going 9-2, primarily at No. 3 singles while adding an 8-2 mark at No. 1 singles for a 17 win on the season.

JWU Women’s Tennis Shuts Out Saint Joseph, 9-0
October 25, 2007

Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University women’s tennis team posted a 9-0 shutout victory against St. Joseph’s (CT) in the quarterfinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship at the Moses Brown Courts on Thursday afternoon.

Johnson & Wales junior Olivia Molhant (Brussels, Belgium) picked up a thrilling 2-6, 7-2, 12-10 win at No. 1 singles and teamed with junior Jessica Cohen (Norton, Mass.) to pick up an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles.  Cohen posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles for the Wildcats.  Sophomore Erienne Gale (Temecula, Calif.) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and also notched a 9-8 victory at No. 1 doubles with freshman Melissa Engel (Traverse City, Mich.).

With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 10-3 while St. Joseph falls to 6-10 for the year.  The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, October 27th when they travel to Simmons for the GNAC semifinals.

Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University women’s tennis team posted a 7-2 victory against Emmanuel in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Moses Brown Courts on Saturday afternoon.

Johnson & Wales junior Olivia Molhant (Brussels, Belgium) picked up a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 win at No. 1 singles and teamed with junior Jessica Cohen (Norton, Mass.) to pick up an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles.  Sophomore Erienne Gale (Temecula, Calif.) won 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 2 singles for the Wildcats.

With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 9-3 on the season and 4-2 in the GNAC while St. Joseph’s falls to 5-6, 1-3 in conference play.  The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, October 24th when they host the GAC quarterfinals, starting at 3:00 p.m.

JWU Women’s Tennis Knocks Off Mitchell
October 3, 2007

Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University women’s tennis team was nearly perfect in a 9-0 victory against Mitchell in a non-conference contest at the Roger Williams Courts on Wednesday afternoon.

Junior Sandra Connelly (Seymour, Conn.) picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles and teamed with sophomore Amber Dea (Honey Brook, Pa.) to pick up an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles.

With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 5-3 on the season. The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, October 6th when they host St. Joseph’s at Noon.

JWU Women’s Tennis Falls To Suffolk, 5-4
September 29, 2007

Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University women’s tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision against Suffolk in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Moses Brown Courts on Saturday afternoon.

The two teams split the six singles matches 3-3 with Suffolk taking victories at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4.  The visiting Rams then took two of the three singles matches to take the 5-4 victory for the afternoon.  Junior Jessica Cohen (Norton, Mass.) picked up a win at No. 3 singles for JWU, winning 6-3 in the first set and 5-3 in the second set before her opponent withdrew due to injury.  Juniors Jessica Flammia (Clark, N.J.) and Sandra Connelly (Seymour, Conn.) picked up wins at No. 5 and 6 singles respectively for the Wildcats.

With the loss Johnson & Wales falls to 3-3 overall, 1-2 in the GNAC while Suffolk remains undefeated at 5-0, 3-0 in league play.  The wildcats will return to action on Monday, October 1st when they host Worcester State in a non-conference contest at 3:30 p.m.

JWU Women’s Tennis Falls To Simmons, 7-2

Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University women’s tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision against Simmons in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Moses Brown Courts on Sunday afternoon.

Simmons took all six singles matches en route to the 7-2 victory. Johnson & Wales junior Olivia Molhant (Brussels, Belgium) picked up an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles with fellow junior Jessica Cohen (Norton, Mass.).

With the win Simmons improves to 3-3, 2-0 in the GNAC while Johnson & Wales falls to 3-1, 1-1 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Tuesday, September 25th when then travel to Rhode Island College for a non-conference contest, starting at 3:30 p.m.

Providence, R.I. -- The Johnson & Wales women’s tennis team posted a 7-2 win against UMass Dartmouth in a non-conference contest at the Moses Brown courts on Saturday after.

Johnson & Wales junior Olivia Molhant (Brussels, Belgium) took an impressive 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles and teamed with junior Jessica Cohen (Norton, Mass.) to take an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. The Wildcats also got a pair of victories from freshman Melissa Engle (Traverse City, Mich.) who won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and also picked up an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles.

With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 2-0 on the season while UMass Dartmouth is now 0-1 for the year. The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, September 15th when they host Emmanuel in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference at noon.
