policies

Johnson & Wales University prohibits the unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession or use of narcotics, drugs, other controlled substances or alcohol at the workplace and in the educational setting. Unlawful for these purposes means in violation of federal, state or local statutes, regulations or ordinances. Educational setting includes both University premises and approved educational sites off-campus.

Possession or use of illegal drugs, narcotics or drug paraphernalia is absolutely forbidden. Johnson & Wales University is not, and cannot be considered, a protector or sanctuary from the existing laws of the city, federal and state governments.

Possession or use of alcohol anywhere on University property is prohibited, except for legal use at events sanctioned by University officials.

university action Disciplinary sanctions which may be imposed on a student found to be in violation of the above policy include, but are not limited to, reprimand, campus service, deferred suspension, fine or restitution of loss, or suspension from University. The University also reserves the right to notify legal guardians of violations.

help is available Given the problems associated with excessive consumption of alcohol or drugs, Johnson & Wales offers several prevention programs:
• Counseling is available on-campus through the student counseling center.
• Outpatient substance abuse services are available to Johnson & Wales students through off-campus professional referrals.
• The University has a Substance Abuse Awareness Task Force Committee.

If you or anyone you know is in need of help, University staff is here to help or direct you to the help you need.

Events are held in April during Substance Abuse Awareness Week. Membership is open to any member of the University community who would like to be involved. If interested contact the office of Student Activities, Health Service, or the Dean of Students.
