Crime Prevention Programs Campus Safety & Security offers a variety of crime prevention programs. Below are a list of programs offered along with a brief description of the program content.
alcohol awareness is a program developed to educate members of the University Community about the ways that alcohol affects the body. In a demonstration using Fatal Vision goggles, volunteers are asked to perform different tasks with and without the goggles, to show how alcohol affect’s a person’s perception.
identity theft is a program to make students aware of the damage that can be caused when personal information is stolen. Tips on what to do if you think someone is using your information falsely are covered.
laptop security is a program designed to make students aware of the value of their laptop to thieves, what common tactics are employed to steal their machines and provide steps they can take to minimize or prevent theft from occurring.
project id is a program to engrave valuables with a unique number and are entered into a database with the owner’s information, so when items are recovered the property can be returned.
property protection is a program which compliments the project id program. It is designed to make students aware of practices historically utilized by thieves on campus and what students can do to minimize their becoming a victim of these strategies.
residence hall security is a program developed to educate students on how to safeguard their valuables while living within the residence halls. It also covers general security issues and why they are important to everyone’s safety.
sexual assault awareness is a program developed to make people aware of how to minimize their chances of becoming a victim of a sexual assault. Also discussed are the resources available to students if assaulted.
street smarts was developed to educate the members of the University Community on how to present themselves so as to reduce the opportunity for a criminal act to occur. The program is based around the person performing a P.A.C.T. with themselves. P.A.C.T. is an acronym for Planning, Alertness, Confidence, and Trust. One must Plan where they are going, be Alert to their surroundings, walk with Confidence, and Trust their instincts.
travel safety was developed to educate members of the University Community on how to protect themselves from crimes that may occur while traveling.
