change of major
Students may request a change of major by meeting with a counselor in Student Academic Services to discuss the changes and then complete a change of status form. It is recommended that students submit major changes as early as possible so that they may seek proper guidance, which will facilitate new program scheduling. Approved major changes will become effective for the subsequent term and must meet certain criteria. Additionally, students are encouraged to meet with their faculty advisors.

Students who submit major changes after the sixth week of a new term will not have guaranteed schedules that accommodate their new majors for the next term due to space and availability. Scheduling for the new major becomes the responsibility of the student.

criteria The following criteria must be met in order for a change of major to be completed.
• Students are responsible for the curriculum listed in the catalog in effect when originally entering the University. At the discretion of the University, curriculum will be revised to meet industry standards.
• All relevant courses will be transferred to the new program of study. The student is still responsible for completing the degree according to course completion standards based on the student's entrance date to the University.
• All courses from the previous major which apply to this new major will be counted toward course completion totals and will be calculated in the cumulative GPA.
• Students on academic probation are not eligible to change their majors without written permission from an academic counselor.
• Students requesting a change of major into the Pastry Arts, Culinary Arts, and Culinary Nutrition bachelor's degree programs must complete a separate application. The major change or continuation will be processed upon the student's acceptance into the new program. (See major criteria in the current catalog).
• International students must have written approval of the International Affairs Office before submitting a major change or continuation notice.
• Students requesting a change of major into International Hotel & Tourism Management must meet admissions criteria and/or receive approval from the appropriate department chairperson.
• Students may not request a change of major into International Business. (See admissions criteria.)
• For Graduate School students, all foundation and prerequisite courses listed for the new program will be determined by Student Academic Services and must be completed or documented before entering the new program. Certain programs within the Graduate School may not be available every term. Students cannot change majors in their last term of enrollment.
