Frequently Asked Questions Providence, North Miami, and Charlotte Campuses Academic Schedule In September 2006 the Providence, Charlotte and North Miami campuses will officially begin to offer academic classes in a new format. In Providence, academic classes will be offered on a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday "block" schedule. Classes will no longer be offered on a single period Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday format. In Charlotte, classes already follow this "new" format; however, the start and end times for classes have been adjusted. In addition, at all three campuses three new optional sections of our most popular courses will be offered on Friday. Who does the change affect? The change impacts any student who is taking an academic course. The change will not impact the current laboratory schedule in the College of Culinary Arts. Baking & Culinary labs will continue to be offered Monday – Thursday (with necessary make-up classes on Fridays). If I am a Providence CE (Continuing Education) student, how am I affected? Evening classes will still be offered Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings at 6:00 PM. Classes will now end 15 minutes earlier at 9:30 PM. In addition, you may now select from sections that meet twice weekly from 6:00 PM -7:55 PM on Monday and Wednesday or on Tuesday and Thursday. How long will a course meet when it is offered on Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday? Each Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday block will last 115 minutes (approximately two hours). Will I be able to schedule for enough credits only on Monday and Wednesday (or only on a Tuesday and Thursday) to be considered a full time student? Yes, if you plan your schedule accordingly and based on course availability, it is feasible to take up to 18 credits during this timeframe. This choice, however, requires a commitment from you to be fully engaged in your classroom experience for six to eight hours. Why the change? What are the benefits of this academic schedule? First and foremost, this new format creates greater scheduling flexibility and allows the University to offer more class sections. Other benefits include: Will we still have make-up classes on Friday? Barring any unforeseen issues, make-up classes for academic courses will not be held on Friday. Necessary make-up classes will continue to be scheduled on Fridays for College of Culinary Arts laboratory courses. In addition, Friday make-up class days will be necessary for Monday night courses that meet 6:00 PM - 9:30 PM. What is the attendance policy? Generally, students must be in attendance by the third class meeting; no more than 2 absences will be allowed. Students must be in attendance by the second meeting for Friday classes; no more than 1 absence will be allowed. Review attendance requirements. When are final exams? All final exams will be held at the last class meeting. Will I be able to schedule more courses per term?
