TYPES OF AID

In addition to your mailed letter, you may view your annual financial aid award in the Financial Services menu of uconnect, the University’s self-service web site.

Grants & Work Study A grant is an award that doesn't have to be repaid and is based on financial need. Work study is a federally funded program that provides part-time employment to students with financial need.

Scholarships A scholarship is aid that doesn't have to be repaid, but is awarded based upon particular, and often competitive, requirements. There are internal J&W scholarships as well as outside scholarships. Johnson & Wales offers an outside scholarship search form which can be obtained in Student Financial Services.

Loans Loans are part of a student's financial aid package and must be repaid after a student leaves school, graduates or drops below half-time status. Before each loan award is disbursed and credited to your account, you must complete a required promissory note, which is the binding legal document that lists the terms and conditions under which you are borrowing and will repay your loan, and includes information about your interest rate as well as deferment and cancellation provisions. Read this information thoroughly and make a copy of it for your records.
