The Teaching Assistant Program (TA) provides opportunities for students to work for one of the University's successful hotels, restaurants, travel tourism sites, or dining service sites. TAs assist instructors with teaching classes, hold supervisory positions, and strive to deliver high quality service and products at the University's - owned, and operated, or partnership facilities.
Teaching Assistants that show outstanding performance are eligible for Fellowship appointments that will provide additional opportunities for further development of skills and industry experience.
Eligibility requirements are as follows:
• full-time student status in undergraduate or graduate school
• 2.75 minimum GPA
• A student must have one full year of academic credits remaining toward undergraduate or graduate degree requirements in order to apply
• Successful completion of Culinary, Pastry or Hotel experiential education term (Internship, Co-op, Term Abroad or Externship)

how do i apply for a teaching assistant position?
Students that would like to apply for a Teaching Assistant Position
should contact the area supervisor for the department in which they
would like to work and schedule an interview. A resume, completed
TA application for the campus you are attending, and recommendation
cards are also required for application.
where do teaching assistants work? Teaching Assistants
are placed in many sites in Practicum Properties and throughout
the University. The Providence Campus offers various opportunities
at the Radisson Hotel and the Johnson & Wales Inn, TAs rotates
through various kitchen positions including banquet kitchen, a la
carte kitchen, bakeshop and a la carte dining rooms. On the hotel
operations side, TAs serve in AM and PM desk rotations, housekeeping,
night audit, guest services and reservations.
The Student Dining Services operate seven Student Dining Facilities,
which utilize Teaching Assistants. While most of these are considered
kitchen rotations, limited experience in Bakeshop, Purchasing and
Retail Sales is available.
Another Practicum site is Johansson's Bakery Café. Locations are found in the Arcade and Cardi’s (South Attleboro, Massachusetts location) Furniture. Pastry TAs help students create distinctive desserts,
breads and sandwiches, which are available for sale to the general
public. Although not a part of Practicum Properties, the David Friedman
Center is also staffed by Teaching Assistants. TAs work in the Culinary
Storeroom, serve as assistants in the labs, and perform special
functions.
Other campuses offer TA positions at hotels, restaurants, student
dining facilities, labs as well as provide assistance at University
special functions.
