Holding a BS in Education from Rhode Island College, a BS in Hospitality Management and a MS in Managerial Technology from Johnson & Wales University, I worked on practicum properties at Johnson & Wales University as Catering Assistant, Reservations Manager and Front Officer Manager. I spent 6 additional years working for the Westin Hotel, Providence; Ramada Inn and Providence Biltmore holding positions as Reservations Sales Manger, Director of Reception and Assistant General Manager. I returned to JWU as a faculty member in 1998, transferred to Charlotte in 2004, having instrumental part in the opening of the campus as chair of The Hospitality College and established community relationships within the hospitality industry. In academic year 2013-14 I transitioned back to full time faculty in the School of Hospitality. Earlier in my career, I taught elementary school after graduating from Rhode Island College.

I hold the certificate CHE-Certified Hospitality Educator, Eta Sigma Delta and NSMH advisor for the student chapters, received the Teacher of the Year award in 2003, club advisor of the year in 2010 and 2013 and is a member of HSMAI, MPI, ICHRIE and SKAL. I have served as Director of Member Services and Development for Southeast, Central and South America Federation of ICHRIE and  Secretary for the SKAL International Charlotte chapter.
