Prior to joining the faculty at Johnson & Wales University as a professor of marketing, Kris Hefley founded the PresentFutures Group. This is a marketing research and marketing firm in Denver, Colorado, that specializes in research based strategic planning and marketing communications programs for organizations in various industries including advertising and manufacturing, and with national associations.

Hefley has worked for clients that include BMW Motorcycles, General Motors, the State of Alaska, the government of South Korea, Fannie Mae, Pepsi, Vail Resorts, H-P, the American Bankers Association, The Olympic Torch Relay and the Small Business Development Center (SBDC). As a marketing consultant, Hefley has served more than 300 SBDC clients. Today, he continues to serve clients while teaching advertising, marketing and marketing research courses in the College of Business at Johnson & Wales University.

He began his career in research and marketing in 1982 when he was the director of research for the Naisbitt Group (John Naisbitt, Megatrends). In that capacity, he was responsible for the research and publication of the Megatrends, Rocky Mountain Trend Report, the California Trend Report and the Midwest Trend Report. This work included the management of 20 researchers and all special research projects, such as the Southwest Trend Report for General Motors. 

As director of the Business Marketing Association’s Colorado Chapter, Hefley received the National Award of Excellence in the National Chapter Competition for Student Assistance from the Business Marketing Association International. He was on the Board of Directors for the Ad Club Denver and is the faculty advisor for the JWU student chapter of the American Advertising Federation. Hefley was awarded the Educator of the Year from the Ad Club of Denver in 2011 and 2013.

Hefley received his master’s degree in Education from the University of Colorado, Denver, and his B.A. in Sociology from Colorado State University.
