With 24 years of experience at JWU, Professor Stephen Pyle has taught a wide variety of courses, developed/revised several degree programs, and served on a number of university committees. He routinely presents at conferences in his field.

In 2010, Pyle assumed the role of college chair of the College of Business, in addition to chairing the College of Hospitality Management.

In his dual capacity as college chair of two distinct colleges, he has worked with faculty to develop a robust student advising model, create bachelor’s programs in Business Administration and Beverage Management, as well as start the Denver Campus’ MBA program.

In 2017, Pyle stepped down as chair to focus his time on his passion for teaching at JWU as a full-time professor.

His industry experience includes assistant general manager (GM) for Quality Hotels, banquet manager for Quality Hotels, program coordinator for RU Outdoors and general management experience for Darci’s Restaurants in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Pyle holds an undergraduate degree in Hospitality Administration from Cornell University and a master’s degree in recreation/leisure management from Radford University.

Personal Statement

My administrative style is firmly grounded in the Servant-Leader teaching model. My teaching style is one of student engagement and experiential learning. I firmly believe in the mission of Johnson & Wales University, and know the benefits of a JWU education. I value the education we provide for our students and the positive work enviroment we provide for our faculty and staff.
