Bio

Scott Smith is a professor in the College of Hospitality Management and also serves as the department chair for JWU Denver’s food service management program.

Smith has more than twenty years of management and culinary experience in the food industry, including culinary and dining service, instruction, operations management, human resource development, quality improvement and development. He is a Certified Executive Chef (CEC) and Certified Culinary Educator (CHE) with the American Culinary Federation (ACF). Currently he serves as president of the ACF’s Colorado chapter.

In 2009, Smith was inducted in the ACF Colorado Chef Hall of Fame. He is also the president-elect for the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (ICHRIE) West Federation. In 2008, he earned his PhD in Education and Human Resources Studies, with a focus in Community College Leadership, at Colorado State University. He also received an MBA degree with a concentration in entrepreneurship from the University of Colorado at Denver.

In addition, Smith is the chef-owner of Chef Cool Enterprises, LLC, which produces Trail Magic Barbeque sauce and spice product line. In his spare time, he volunteers for the Open Space Project (Westminster, Colorado) and works with several other organizations building and maintaining backcountry hiking trails.
