Bio

David Edwards is the interim chair of the College of Hospitality Management at JWU’s North Miami Campus. He also serves as an associate professor and sits on the college’s Curriculum and Outcomes Assessment Committees. He joined JWU in 2007 and previously held the position of lead faculty for the Sports, Entertainment, Event — Management (SEEM) program.

A graduate of Florida International University (FIU), Edwards has a diverse professional background, spanning from sports media to international hotel operations. He is an active member of the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, & Institutional Education (ICHRIE), the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH) and the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM).

Recently recognized by South Florida’s Legacy Magazine as one of the top black educators for 2016, he is a firm believer in a global, multicultural approach to education and has led multiple study abroad experiences to Australia and South Africa. While his current research efforts are focused on sports as a tool for social and economic development, Edwards has presented papers on a range of topics at several national and international conferences.

Edwards is currently pursuing a DBA in sports administration at St. Thomas University. He is a Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) and holds a certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA) from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute.
