Todd Tonova was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, and graduated from The Culinary Institute of America in 1987. He earned a bachelor of science degree from Florida International University (FIU) in 1991, an M.S. from FIU in 1992, and a Ph.D. from Lynn University in 2001.
