Lee Esckilsen began his teaching career at Johnson & Wales University in the department of Sports, Entertainment, Event — Management in 2001.

Esckilsen has been instrumental in the development of courses and course content in the areas of venue management, ticketing and access management. He teaches both undergraduate and graduate level courses.

Prior to beginning his academic career, Esckilsen was involved in the development and management of international and national public assembly venues and events. He continues his involvement in the sports and entertainment, venue and event, development and management business as the Principal of ESVenues.

Esckilsen has co-authored two textbooks for the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM) during his 15 years at Johnson & Wales University. These textbooks were developed and written for students and entry level professionals in the venue management business. The textbooks are used at 150+ colleges and universities in North America and as a professional resource internationally. Esckilsen will begin writing the next edition of the IAVM textbook in the summer of 2017.

Personal Statement

My teaching philosophy involves two words: content and process.

My primary goal is to teach the content of the course and meet the course objectives using multiple methods of teaching. My second goal is to assist students with the continued development of the skillset process, including communication and negotiation skills are necessary to become and sustain a successful career as a manager in the sports, entertainment, venue and event management business.
