Debbie Howarth is an associate professor in the International Hotel School at JWU’s College of Hospitality Management in Providence, RI, where she teaches sales, meeting & marketing courses. She brings to the college more than 12 years of experience in the hospitality and tourism industries.

Howarth has worked as a regional director of sales and marketing, general manager and director of sales for hotels in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Vermont.

In addition, she has served on the board of directors for several hospitality associations, as well as advisory and steering committees in the hospitality and tourism industries.

Howarth has been a board member for the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) Boston Chapter, Inc., since 2000, is a past president of the chapter (2010-2012) and has been treasurer since 2001.

Howarth holds a bachelor’s degree in Small Business Management from the University of Vermont, a master’s Degree in Hospitality Administration specializing in marketing from the University of Nevada and an EdD in Curriculum and Teaching: Educational Media & Technology from Boston University.

She has also earned the designations of Certified Hospitality Marketing Executive (CHME) and Certified Hospitality Digital Marketer from the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI), and Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) from the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA).
