Bio

Since graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies and an M.Ed. in Education with TOEFL certification, Ann Schroth has been teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages in different academic settings for over 25 years.

Her teaching experiences have included working with English-language learners in a variety of settings, including

  • community action programs
  • adult education
  • TOEFL test preparation
  • intensive English programs

In addition, Schroth has worked as a teaching consultant for an international language program.

At Johnson & Wales University, she has taught all levels and skill areas of ESL; in addition, she has taught English and ILS courses in the College of Arts & Sciences as well as a communications class in Singapore.

JWU has provided Schroth with amazing opportunities to learn and grow by providing resources to present at and attend conferences throughout the United States. She has a commitment to broadening students’ experiences in their new environment through collaborations with A&S faculty.

These collaborations provide opportunities for her ESL students to be viewed as experts with valuable information to share with university peers; at the same time, the ESL students have an opportunity to use English in a variety of contexts outside of the ESL classroom. Classroom collaborations have become an area of interest for further research and development.
