Bio

Since graduating with a bachelor of arts in American Studies and an MEd in education with TOEFL certification, I have been teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages in different academic settings for over 25 years.

My teaching experiences have included working with English-language learners in a variety of settings, including:

  • community action programs
  • adult education
  • TOEFL test preparation
  • Intensive English programs

In addition, I have worked as a teaching consultant for an international language program.

At Johnson & Wales University, I have taught all levels and skill areas of ESL; in addition, I have taught English and ILS courses in the College of Arts and Sciences as well as a Communications class in Singapore.

JWU has provided me with amazing opportunities to learn and grow by providing resources to present at and attend conferences throughout the United States. I have a commitment to broadening students’ experiences in their new environment through collaborations with A&S faculty.

These collaborations provide opportunities for my ESL students to be viewed as experts with valuable information to share with university peers; at the same time, the ESL students have an opportunity to use English in a variety of contexts outside of the ESL classroom. Classroom collaborations have become an area of interest for further research and development.
