Bio

Karen Swoboda has served as Director of Teacher Education at JWU for the more than five years. As such, she directs the Master of Arts in Teaching and Master of Education in Teaching and Learning programs. She has most recently taken on additional responsibilities, expanding her role to include directing the Educational Leadership doctoral program as well.

Earlier in her career, she taught history and reading at the middle/high school level, and served as principal and assistant principal roles in both public and private schools in Rhode Island. Her practitioner research has focused in the fields of teacher education and the principalship in Catholic settings.

Swoboda currently serves on the boards of the Center for Leadership and Educational Equity, the RI Certification Advisory Board and the Rhode Island Credential Review.

She is an active member of several professional organizations, including Performance Review for Educator Preparation Rhode Island (Prep-RI), Rhode Island Association for Career and Technical Education (RIACTE), and Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD).
