As a faculty member, John Varlaro teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in human resource management, industrial/organizational psychology, international business and business strategy.
During his tenure as chair of the management department, he led extensive curricula and outcomes initiatives, including the development of new degree programs and revisions to existing programs.
Varlaro is a member of the HR Certification Institute’s Certification Council, which oversees the development, maintenance and administration of the certification programs. Previously, he had participated for several years in the development of HR certification exams. He also chaired the writing of “The HR Certification Institute’s A Guide to the HR Body of Knowledge,” first published in 2015.
He is currently writing a textbook about human resource management; in the past, he has contributed to textbooks on both HR management and strategic management. His Ph.D. is from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, and his MBA with a focus in Japanese Management is from the University of Hawai’i.
