PROVIDENCE, R.I. – February 19, 2019 – Johnson & Wales University today announced the launch of two new 3+2 programs that offer qualified students the opportunity to earn a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Addiction Counseling or Clinical Mental Health Counseling in five years. The programs maximize the time and investment of students by providing a path to complete their studies a year ahead of schedule, and save a year’s tuition in the process.

Students who wish to enroll in the Psychology program on the Providence and Denver campuses may apply for the 3+2 B.S. Psychology/M.S. Addiction Counseling program, which allows them to achieve their bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Addiction Counseling in five years. Psychology majors at the Providence Campus also have the option to pursue a master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling as part of the 3+2 B.S. Psychology/M.S. Clinical Mental Health Counseling program.

“It made sense to connect the programs more directly and streamline the plan for undergraduate Psychology majors who know they want to pursue a master’s in counseling,” said Michael Fein, Ph.D., assistant dean in the John Hazen White College of Arts & Sciences. “Students in these 3+2 programs can save a year’s tuition, get into the field earlier than their peers and begin the work towards professional licensure sooner while earning a salary doing a job they love.”

Both 3+2 programs provide students a seamless transition from their undergraduate studies to their desired graduate degree by offering 10 core counseling graduate courses that count toward their Psychology bachelor’s degree and give them a head start on their graduate degree.

Those who apply must satisfy separate admission requirements for both undergraduate and graduate programs, as admission to the undergraduate Psychology program does not guarantee admission to the graduate programs.
