Rummy Pandit Appointed Dean of the College of Hospitality Management

Rummy Pandit, LP.D., has been appointed dean of the College of Hospitality Management at Johnson & Wales University (JWU) Providence Campus effective June 1, 2020.

“Dean Pandit brings a strong balance of industry and academic experience to Johnson & Wales,” Provost Billye W. Auclair, Ph.D. says. “He shares our commitment to provide our students with a high-quality learning experience and curriculum that prepares them for success within the hospitality industry upon graduation. His extensive industry network connections and professional contacts will enhance the internships, experiential learning, and employment opportunities we offer our students.”

Prior to joining JWU, Pandit was the executive director of the Lloyd D. Levenson Institute of Gaming, Hospitality and Tourism at Stockton University in New Jersey. At Stockton since 2011, he held positions as the executive director, Stockton Seaview Hotel & Golf Club and interim associate vice president, operations. His academic leadership experience includes serving as the associate dean for business management at the Culinary Institute of America, New York and the assistant dean and executive director of hospitality management at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. His industry experience includes the Ritz Carlton in Boston, the Gotham Hospitality Group in New York, and the Showboat Casino Hotel in Atlantic City. 

“It is my personal philosophy that making sure students are adequately prepared for the real-world challenges they face in a constantly evolving, globalized market is of the greatest importance to us as educators,” Pandit notes. “Given the test of current times that we are undergoing collectively, it is even more critical that students understand the purpose of learning and are ready to contribute globally the moment they graduate.”

Pandit earned his doctorate in Law and Policy from Northeastern University, a master’s degree in Hotel Administration from Cornell University and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Rutgers University. He received a bachelor of commerce degree from Delhi University, India. 

At JWU, Pandit will provide strategic leadership and overall direction for the college in alignment with the university’s strategic initiatives with an emphasis on academic excellence, retention and graduation rates, and external relationships that advance the goals of the college. 

The College of Hospitality Management offers 14 bachelor of science degree programs including: Adventure, Sport and Sustainable Tourism Management; Hotel & Resort Management; Hospitality Management; and, Sports, Entertainment, Event Management. Its current master of science degree programs are: Global Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development; International Beverage Management; and, Sport Leadership. The College of Hospitality Management enrollment at the Providence Campus for academic year 2019-20 was 1,110; universitywide it was 2,550. JWU’s College of Hospitality Management was listed among the Top 15 Best hospitality and hotel management schools in the world by CEO World Magazine.
