Accelerate Your Public Health Path
Transform your passion for public health into a rewarding career in just 12 months through JWU’s One-Year Master of Public Health (MPH) program. Designed to meet the Council on Education for Public Health’s accreditation standards, our full-time, year-round program integrates foundational knowledge and competencies throughout the curriculum, so you can learn how to use public health skills within a variety of content areas.
You don’t need prior experience in public health to enroll in this program. Public health integrates a diverse range of skills from multiple disciplines, and applicants from all backgrounds are invited to apply.
Merit Scholarship Opportunity
Outstanding full-time applicants will be considered for the Dean’s Scholarship, which offers up to $4,000 per academic year for full-time study. If you are awarded multiple university scholarships or grants, the scholarship with the highest value will be applied to your program.
What It’s Like in JWU’s One-Year MPH Program
To complete your degree in just a year, you’ll start in the summer, taking five courses per semester through graduation, at which time you’ll be ready to make a positive impact on public health.
From your first course, you’ll employ experiential learning to solve real-world public health issues. You’ll begin preparing for an independent applied practicum experience and be trained to make immediate impacts on the public’s health after graduation.
Courses such as Improving Community Health and the Public Health Capstone will prepare you to apply what you’ve learned to real-life situations by working with a community partner. You’ll gain a full spectrum of public health knowledge that includes social determinants of health, policy, core principles of epidemiology, biostatistics and research.
Outcomes of JWU’s One-Year MPH Program
During your year of study, you’ll:
- Use evidence-based epidemiological methods to assess the health of populations.
- Apply your knowledge to design a public health intervention aimed at improving community health.
- Assess the impact of public health programs and policies using observational, experimental, or quasi-experimental methodologies.
- Analyze the effects of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives on the health of individuals and communities.
- Create a comprehensive plan to foster an environment that encourages healthy decision-making.
By incorporating real-world experiences throughout the program, students will be ready to make an immediate positive impact on the public’s health after graduation.”

Integrate a broad foundation in public health practice with healthcare delivery through JWU’s new Combined Master of Public Health and Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. Our first cohort will begin their combined degree studies in Fall 2027.
