Biography

Katrina M. Herold, Ed.D., serves as Associate Dean of the John Hazen White College of Arts & Sciences at Johnson & Wales University. Her leadership focuses on advancing student success, strengthening academic programs, supporting faculty development, and fostering innovative approaches to teaching and learning.Herold leads and contributes to college and university-wide initiatives designed to improve student retention, persistence, and graduation. Her recent work includes strengthening faculty mentoring, expanding opportunities for high-achieving students, supporting the redesign of the university’s Honors Program, and advancing interdisciplinary and experiential learning opportunities. She also works closely with academic departments to translate institutional priorities into practical strategies that strengthen curricula and the student experience.

A central focus of Herold’s current leadership is the responsible integration of artificial intelligence across academic programs. She is guiding the development of program-level approaches to AI literacy that connect emerging industry expectations with curriculum design, establish appropriate guardrails for student AI use, and ensure that graduates possess the disciplinary knowledge needed to critically evaluate AI-generated work.

Before joining the college’s administrative team, Herold served as a faculty member and Director of the JWU Center for Teaching and Learning. In that role, she championed professional development, cross-disciplinary collaboration, instructional innovation, and scholarly engagement among faculty and staff. Her research interests include Universal Design for Learning (UDL), inclusive teaching practices, and the influence of alternative instructional modalities on student outcomes.
