Biography

Steven Riccitelli is a lecturer for the criminal justice program. Riccitelli is also a retired captain with the North Smithfield police department in Rhode Island. Riccitelli was with the department for 25 years and held the positions of patrol officer, detective, patrol lieutenant, detective lieutenant, and operations captain. During Riccitelli’s time with NSPD, he was assigned as an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force member with the Rhode Island State Police. While with the task force, Riccitelli investigated and apprehended child pornography offenders using specially designed peer to peer file sharing software. He also assisted in the investigation and apprehension of individuals who were using the internet to have encounters with underage persons.

Prior to joining the police force, Riccitelli was a correctional officer at the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility in Central Falls, Rhode Island. He served as the facility’s internal affairs investigator and firearms instructor from 1993-1996. During Riccitelli’s time at Wyatt, he was responsible for all inmate investigations regarding violations of facility policy and criminal law. Some of Riccitelli’s other responsibilities included monitoring gang members to ensure that rival gangs were not housed in the same unit, acting as the liaison for all outside law enforcement agencies, conducting security checks, and conducting cell/block contraband searches.
