Undergraduate Student Scholarships

Every student is automatically considered for JWU merit scholarships with no separate application required. Awards are based on your high school GPA and are available to full-time, undergraduate students studying in person.

For undergraduate students, your academic record may qualify you for various merit scholarships. You may also be eligible to receive grants for things like visiting campus, filling out the FAFSA and other activities. 

Merit Scholarships

JWU offers merit scholarships for full-time, undergraduate, in-person students based on high school grade point average. You may qualify for these scholarships in addition to other JWU financial aid opportunities.

JWU merit scholarships are renewable annually for up to four years of continuous full-time undergraduate attendance, assuming students maintain good academic standing.

Other Scholarships and Grants

JWU offers a wide variety of scholarships and grants to help students afford their college education. You don’t need to pay these back, and most of them you don’t even need to apply for. We’ll match you up with the ones you’re eligible to receive in your financial aid offer package with your offer of admission. 

A Few of the Most Common JWU Scholarships and Grants

• Early FAFSA Award: Up to $1,000 for filing the FAFSA by February 1.
• Visit Grant: Up to $5,000 annually for visiting campus by December 1 of your senior year for Fall 2027 applicants.
• CTSO Scholarship: $2,000 renewable scholarship. Indicate your membership on your JWU application for admission to be considered.
• Transfer Scholarships: Up to $30,000 for eligible transfer students.
• JWU Commuter Grant: For eligible commuter students this grant and scholarship package covers up to 100% of tuition (in place of JWU Pledge).

Outside Scholarships

You can also apply for scholarships from organizations outside of JWU to help cover your remaining costs. All accepted/deposited and current JWU students have access to a Scholarship Search tool in the iGrad portal to find scholarships to help pay for school.

Loans and Other Ways to Pay

Aside from scholarships and grants, which don’t need to be paid back, there are other ways to help cover college costs. Loans are money you borrow from the U.S. government or other private lending organizations to pay for your education; you have to pay the money back, usually once you graduate, and usually with interest.   

How to Apply for Financial Aid

Both new and returning students apply for financial aid by filling out the FAFSA application each year. JWU’s school code in the FAFSA application is 003404. The FAFSA typically opens in October for the following year’s fall semester course enrollment.

When You’ll Receive Scholarship Funds

Scholarship funds are applied to your student account with the university in two equal disbursements by semester (e.g., a $3,000 Presidential Academic Scholarship recipient would receive $1,500 per semester in the fall and spring).
