What is Guaranteed Admission?

The Guaranteed Admission Program (GAP) creates a seamless admission process for community college students who plan to finish a bachelor’s degree at Johnson & Wales University. You can complete your degree at the Providence or Charlotte campus, or online.

Most students enter GAP after earning an associate degree. If you’re partway through, you may still qualify with 24 or more transferable credits.

A JWU advisor works with the transfer advisor at your community college to track your credits and map out what’s left.

Programs You Can Transfer Into

With a completed associate of science degree from an accredited institution, you may enter these programs with junior status:

  • Business Studies (Providence, Charlotte, Online)
  • Liberal Studies (Providence, Charlotte, Online)

If your associate of science degree is in Culinary Arts or Baking & Pastry Arts, you may enter these programs with junior status:

  • Food & Beverage Industry Management 2+2 (Providence, Charlotte)
  • Food & Beverage Entrepreneurship (Providence, Charlotte, Online)
  • Applied Food Science (Charlotte)
  • Baking & Pastry Arts and Food Service Management (Online)
  • Culinary Arts and Food Service Management (Online)

Other associate of science degrees are reviewed individually under JWU’s transfer credit policy. Students with more than 24 credits from a participating institution may be admitted into other degree programs.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for GAP, you need:

  • A completed associate degree from an accredited institution, or at least 24 transferable semester credit hours
  • A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher across all college coursework
  • Official transcripts from every college you’ve attended
  • Proof of English language proficiency, if you are an international student

How to Apply

  1. Submit your JWU application. Apply before your intended start semester. Choose the application that matches where you’ll study.
  2. Complete the Guaranteed Admission Program (GAP) Participation Form. The form lets JWU and your community college share your academic records so we can track your progress toward the degree.

Guaranteed Admission Program Disclosure

Program availability varies by campus. Check the campus catalog for the current program list. Admission to JWU does not guarantee admission into specialized programs, which may require a higher GPA or other qualifications. GAP students follow the same admission requirements, degree requirements and academic policies as all other JWU students, along with the policies of their community college.
