We are so excited to welcome you to Johnson & Wales! Before your arrival, there are tasks you need to complete. Our JWU Global office are here to help you every step of the way.

1. Complete Accepted Student tasks.
Once you are accepted, you will be directed to JWU’s Accepted Student website to complete several tasks, including:
- Submit reservation fee to start I-20 processing
- Once you receive your I-20, pay SEVIS fee
- Apply for a visa
- Submit health forms
- Submit housing form
- Submit your travel plan for Providence or Charlotte
2. Choose your health insurance.
Health insurance is required, and JWU will provide you with health insurance. All registered students are eligible and automatically enrolled in the JWU plan. If you have health insurance through another means (i.e., parent’s health insurance or an employer program), you do not have to utilize the university student health insurance plan and may opt out of/waive it.
All current insurance must be accepted and fully comprehensive for all of the student’s needs in the U.S. and the state in which the student attends class. Students can opt out of/waive the university plan by submitting the online waiver form to demonstrate evidence of coverage. A new waiver form must be submitted each academic year.
Students who are required to have health insurance and do not waive the JWU plan will be charged for it. The online waiver form and details of the plan, including the full brochure and benefit flyer, can be found on the University Health Plans website.
JWU will not cover health insurance for your dependents, so make sure they have health insurance.
Other Health Insurance
If you are using other health insurance, please ensure it is equivalent to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) health insurance and is covered in the US. Waiver forms will be reviewed, and if the plan does not meet the requirements, students will be notified by University Health Plans that their waiver form is not accepted and will be required to provide evidence of a compliant plan or be enrolled in JWU Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP).
3. Pay your tuition and fees.
Pay your tuition and fees, including room and board.
4. Prepare your documents for immigration.
Pack these documents in your hand carry luggage. You will want easy access to them when you go through immigration in the U.S.
- US F1 student visa
