Build Your Skills at Nursing Clinicals 

JWU Providence’s Nursing program is located in the newly-renovated Johnson Hall. The second floor houses offices and meeting spaces, with the Simulation Center on the third floor.

A short walk away is the Academic Center, which serves as a hub of interprofessional experiential learning for students across the university’s College of Health & Wellness, including those in occupational therapy, dietetics and applied nutrition, exercise and sport science, health science and public health.

JWU ABSN students gain hands-on experience in our simulation lab, where they listen to heartbeats, practice giving IVs, take blood pressure and other activities using high-fidelity manikins. Following this, they participate in seven courses and clinical pairings to gain real-world healthcare training experience. While many clinicals are in Providence, students get to travel to nearby towns and cities including Woonsocket and Westerly to practice patient care.

Our clinical partnerships include Brown University Health, Care New England and other long-term care facilities, and smaller outpatient and inpatient clinics. In the traditional basic clinical cohort, a maximum of eight students are assigned to a clinical site at the same time each week. Under the guidance of a clinical instructor, students are encouraged to perform tasks within their scope of practice. Nurses also collaborate with the cohort to assess patients and provide fundamental healthcare, building real-world skills.
