PROVIDENCE, R.I. — September 22, 2026 – Johnson & Wales University’s Providence Campus moved up to number six in the “Most Innovative: Regional Universities, North” ranking, according to the latest report from U.S. News & World Report, up one spot from last year. 

“We are pleased to see Johnson & Wales University recognized in this year’s U.S. News & World Report rankings,” said Chancellor Mim Runey, LP.D. “This recognition reflects the university’s commitment to innovation, adapting to the needs of students and industry while preparing graduates to lead in a rapidly changing world.” 

The “most innovative” ranking is determined based on academic peers. According to U.S. News & World Report, “top academics participating in a peer assessment survey [were asked] to name the colleges and universities they think are the most innovative.” The strong position reflects the university’s commitment to adaptability and providing students with a cutting-edge, industry-responsive education. In the past year, JWU has welcomed the first two cohorts of students to its four first-in-the-nation in-person 3-year bachelor’s degree programs. The innovative degree programs, offered in four in-demand career majors, allow students to finish their degree in just three years with 90-96 credits instead of the traditional 120. 

Additionally, the university has expanded its free tuition initiative, The JWU Pledge, to include students from qualifying families from all U.S. states and territories.  

The JWU Charlotte Campus was ranked No. 39 in the “Best Colleges: South” category, as well as the following categories:  

• Top Private Schools – Regional Colleges (South) #30 (tied)  

• Best Value – Regional Colleges (South) #11
