We have a great team of student leaders who are committed to supporting our residential students. There are several types of positions available, each with different benefits and requirements.
Res Life Employment
Residential Life employs students in various leadership positions, including:
- Resident Assistants (RAs)
- Student Assistants (SAs)
- Federal work-study employee positions (Desk Assistants)
Resident Assistant Recruitment & Selection
Resident Assistants (RAs) represent Residential Life as key team members in its day-to-day operations. As an RA, you’ll live in one of our residence halls and assist students with transitioning to campus life. RAs have diverse responsibilities and must be able to balance several multidimensional roles, including active planner, helper, advisor, resource person, administrator and role model.
Minimum Requirements for RAs
- Must be a current JWU Charlotte student; enrolled as a full-time, undergraduate student and in good standing with Student Financial Services
- Maintain and have a minimum 2.75 GPA (cumulative)
- No significant Code of Conduct violations
- Have experience living in on-campus housing
Resident Assistant Application
To be considered for an RA position, you must attend one of the RA Information Sessions. Applications will only be sent to those who attend.
- Fall 2026 Session #1: Tuesday, September 8, 8:15pm-9pm in Cedar Hall South Game Room
- Fall 2026 Session #2: Wednesday, September 9, 8:15pm-9pm in Cedar Hall North Game Room
- Spring 2027 Session #1: Monday, January 25, 8:15pm-9pm in Cedar Hall South Game Room
- Spring 2027 Session #2: Wednesday, January 27, 8:15pm-9pm in Cedar Hall North Game Room

Student Assistants
Student assistant positions are available in Residential Life and in other departments on campus. Students must apply for these positions on Handshake.
Federal Work-Study: Desk and Mail Room Assistants
Federal work-study positions are for eligible students who qualify for the program through their financial aid package. For details about the federal work-study program, please contact Student Employment at studentwork.clt@jwu.edu or apply on Handshake.
