Accessibility Services

JWU is committed to providing an accessible, inclusive environment where every student has equal opportunity to succeed. Accessibility Services partners with students with disabilities or chronic health conditions to coordinate reasonable accommodations across academics, housing, campus life and more — all included in tuition.

Accessibility is about more than accommodations. We work collaboratively with students, faculty and staff to identify and remove barriers, so every student has the opportunity to fully participate in university life.

How Accommodations Work

The accommodation process is individualized and collaborative. Examples of accommodations include: audio recorders in class, classroom relocation, use of assistive technology (i.e. Read & Write, Dragon Naturally Speaking), enlarged print, note taking assistance, oral and/or extended time for tests, preferential scheduling, reduced course load and preferential campus housing selection.

Students who wish to request accommodations must self-disclose their disability and provide documentation from a qualified healthcare or licensed professional — accommodations are not automatic and are not retroactive, so we encourage students to begin the process as early as possible.

Please note that family members may not request accommodations on behalf of a student, and will not receive information about a student’s accommodations unless the student chooses to share it.
