College of Arts & Sciences
Explore your passions in the John Hazen White College of Arts & Sciences while you build communication and analytical skills that employers value most. Connect with faculty who work in a wide range of academic areas and pursue a more applied approach to a liberal education.
From Crime Scenes to Cameras
Criminal Justice students are analyzing crime scenes in the Mock Crime Scene Room. Media & Communication students are making independent films in our Center for Media Production. Psychology students are helping patients through clinical internships. Animal Science students are working with local farms to care for livestock.
Turn Concepts Into Action
Practical work isn’t a separate track here — it’s built into the courses themselves. You’ll run simulations in the Cybersecurity Lab, enter design competitions, collect field data for a biology study that ends up published with your name on it. Before graduating, every student completes an internship or a related applied learning opportunity in their field. By then you’ll have done it enough times that it isn’t new.

Spaces Built Like Real Workplaces
Our labs and learning spaces are set up to match working environments, not just teach about them. You’ll handle the same instruments, software and equipment professionals use — and you’ll operate them yourself. Run the experiment. Record the data. Figure out what went wrong and run it again. That’s how a skill holds up under pressure, long before your first internship.

Psychology Major’s Mind Meets Justice
Psychology major Gianna Marlow ’24 reflects on her felony probation internship at The Georgia Department of Community Supervision, which supervises people who have completed felony sentences and are on parole or probation.
Where Students Get to Work Early
Some things about a JWU education are easier to show than describe. In these two videos, design students put a year of work in front of a live audience, and criminal justice students process evidence in a working lab. Different majors, same approach — you learn the job by doing the job, then explain your choices to people who know the field. That’s the part employers notice.
Design students spend their final year building a portfolio. At Senior Reveal, they put it in front of an audience.
