Institutional Review Board

JWU’s federally registered Institutional Review Board (JWU IRB) reviews research that involves human participants. Members include faculty, staff and at least one community member from outside the university. The board reviews protocols for research involving human participants to ensure participants are treated equitably and that their rights and welfare are appropriately protected.

What the IRB does:

  • Reviews research proposals from JWU faculty, staff and students whether the activities would take place on or off campus
  • Ensures research complies with laws, regulations, university policies and ethical standards
  • Monitors research activities during implementation as required

For JWU Researchers

Members of the JWU community planning research with human participants will find policies, procedures, forms, definitions and frequently asked questions on the IRB resource page.
