Q&A with Jacob

At JWU, education is not confined to the four walls of the classroom. You’re not going to spend four years with your nose buried in a book, learning theories you may never get a chance to apply — you’re going to get out there and apply them, be it through internships, group projects, leadership opportunities, competitions and more.

How Did You Get Started?

My love for media production started shortly after I got my first guitar. I would sit in my room and record myself playing on a tape deck, then record a drum beat from my old CASIO keyboard on another, then record them playing together. It wasn't long until I discovered digital music recording software, and as they say, the rest is history.

I was inspired to someday become a teacher because of two very influential figures in my life - my high school French teacher, Cathy Oakes, and my mentor during my undergraduate and graduate studies, Dr. Mark Piwinsky. These two individuals showed me that you can make the classroom fun, informative, safe and inspiring.
