Born in rural Eastern Kentucky and being a first-generation university student, James Woods pursued an education as a means of providing a better future for his family and as a way to serve his community. He earned a doctorate in Psychobiology from Purdue University and an MBA from Ball State University.

Woods’ career includes time in research and development, product development, business operations and business development. His early research focused on identifying the neurobiological underpinnings of drug addiction. In addition, his passion for entrepreneurship and economic development led him to co-find a contract research organization, direct an entrepreneurship incubator and currently serve as a faculty member, training new entrepreneurs.

Woods emphasizes real-world learning and experiences both in- and outside of the classroom, encouraging his students to network with local entrepreneurs and leaders.
